The Den

At Greenfield Primary school we have our own alternative provision called ’The Den’,  catering for our children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) who find it very difficult to thrive in a mainstream classroom. The Den provides a calm, engaging teaching space where a more bespoke curriculum is implemented so that each child's needs can be provided for.

The pupils in The Den have a variety of additional needs including Learning Difficulties, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties, and various neurodiverse conditions.

Access to The Den is flexible and dependent on need; some children are in this class fulltime, others are in the class part-time and supported in their mainstream class at other times, and other children access the provision for specific activities or lessons or just when they are in need of some respite time.

The Den is led by Mrs Howship (Assistant SENCo); she liaises closely with Mrs Perry (SENCo) to ensure the provision and the curriculum offered meets the identified needs of the children, and addresses the targets specified in their individual plans.

Decisions regarding placement in or access to The Den are made by the SENCo, Assistant SENCO and Headteacher in liaison with parents and class teachers.
