Reciprocal Reading

During Spring term, our new book is The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. This is the book we will be using for all writing and reading activities so it is important you keep up to date and don’t skip a day’s reading.

Today I would like you to look at the front cover and blurb of our new book. I would also like you to read pages 1, 2 and 3. There are 2 PowerPoints attached that I would like you to work through, which means there will be two written tasks for you to complete. Attached is a picture of the front cover and blurb for PowerPoint 1 and then a copy of Chapter 1 of the book for PowerPoint 2. Remember to only read to page 3 today.

Here is the order we usually follow in class for Reciprocal Reading:

  • Predict (sensible guess)

  • Read the pages

  • Clarify the meaning of words you didn’t know

  • Answer the questions

  • Summarise

Literacy

This week, we are going to write a character description of the Iron Man. A character description must include interesting adjectives (describing words) and a range of different sentence types.

Today, I would like you to read through pages 1-3 of our book again and use the picture I have attached. Your task is to mind map some powerful describing words that you can use when describing the Iron Man’s appearance and personality. You can use an online thesaurus to help you improve your adjectives and make them more interesting for the reader.

Maths

ROYG - Today you will be practising column addition and subtraction. You have already learnt how to use column addition and subtraction but I have also attached a link to a YouTube video that shows you how to use these methods too!

Attached are your questions according to your Maths group. There is also a document that contains the answers to all the questions so that you are able to mark your own answers afterwards.

Blue - Today you will be practising your bonds to make 10 and comparing these using the more than, less than and equal signs. You can use the numberline to help you or draw counters.

Geography

Today, you will be learning about international trade and food miles. Work through the PowerPoint with a grown up. Discuss the meanings of any new key words that we come across. Your task is explained on the PowerPoint. You will need to use your electronic device to research how far the UK is from the countries where different foods come from and calculate food miles for 2 different meals.
