Phonics

Miss Sharpe's group - I would like to join in with the live phonics lesson streaming on youtube at 9:30am (remember if you miss it - don't worry! It will be on the youtube channel for 24hrs)
You are learning set 3 sounds so make sure this is the one that you watch. You should also watch and join in with the spelling video to match the sound which you are learning today. You will need some paper and a pencil to write the words on.
It's really important to keep practising your sounds.

Reading

Watch the video below to join in with your reading learning. Pause the video when it asks you to and try to join in with the questions you are asked to answer.

Your reading learning today is to answer multiple choice questions.

Skim through the text to find the part the question is asking you about, then select the correct answer from the choices.

Maths: Red, Orange, Yellow & Green groups

Today you are going to learn how to count the vertices on a 2-D shape.
Hopefully you are getting familiar with the different 2-D shape names by now, but I shall put them below again in case you need a reminder.

Vertices are the points where edges meet on a shape.

See this example:

So on a square there are 4 vertices.

Watch the video below to find out more about how to count vertices on a 2-D shape. Make sure you join in with the activities and pause the video when you are asked to.

Now you are ready to complete your learning.

Maths: Blue group

Today we are going to learn to count in 5s.

Like counting in 2s, it is a quick way to work out totals. There are lots of things around us that count in 5s.

Watch the video to find out about how you can practise counting in 5s.

I would like you to count in 5s on the 50 chart. Colour the 5s number you land on each time. Then try the challenge.

Writing

I hope you enjoyed Wolves yesterday. Did you notice it is a picture book? The whole story is told through the fantastic pictures Emily Gravett has drawn. The words are from the book that rabbit is reading about wolves.

I have attached it again for you to watch if you need to watch it again.

Red, Orange, Yellow and Green groups: Today we are going to tell the story that happened to rabbit the day he went to the library. When we write the sentences, we are going to concentrate on making sure we are using:

  • capital letters to start a sentence and full stops to end a sentence (you may need to use an ! to show how someone is feeling or a ?)
  • adjectives (describing words) in our sentences
  • conjunctions in some of your sentences – and, but, because, so, when

You can choose which ending you want to use for your writing.

Click here to watch the video to see how Miss Meakin started her story.

The rest of the pictures are on the video so you will only need a pencil and paper to write your story.

If you want to write the sentences next to the pictures, I have also added the worksheet so you can do this.

Don’t forget to read through and check your work when you have finished. Have you included some of the things on the check list?

Blue group. I would like you to write colourful sentences next to each picture. I have included a colourful sentence word mat to help you on the activity sheet.

I look forward to seeing your writing.

Design and Technology

For this DT lesson you will be using the Oak Academy learning video and activity to learn about and investigate the suitability of a material.

Last time we learnt that a material is what something is made from. We also found out that materials have different properties. Take a look at this material word mat to remind yourselves of some of the key vocabulary we learnt.

Did you know some of these materials and key words from last time?

In this lesson, we will be investigating the suitability of a material. We will be recording all of the different materials and testing to see whether they can bend and stand up by itself.

You only need some paper, some card and a pencil to complete this learning!

We are taking part in lesson 4 as we are carrying on from lesson 3 which we completed last time!

Click this link https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/to-explore-a-range-of-materials-to-help-make-design-decisions-64v30d?step=1&activity=video to watch the learning video and join in with the different activities as you go along.

I have attached the worksheet below too so that you can have it before you start the lesson.

Story time

I hope you enjoyed Chapter 1 of Mantu the Elephant. Today Miss Meakin will read chapter 2 for you!

Let me know what you thought of the story.
