Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Wednesday 1st July 2020

Good Morning

Today is the start of July! Where did June go? The months are flying by and soon it will be September and you can hopefully be back at school so that you are reunited with your friends and see all of your teachers.

Hope you are ready for a super Wednesday today filled with lots of learning to do!

Have a great day, stay safe!

Reciprocal Reading

Today we are going to begin reading chapter 11 of Nim’s Island.

Once you have read today’s pages, you are going to summarise what you have read, using no more than 3 sentences. Remember a summary is to tell me about the key events, not every little detail of the story.

Literacy

Today you are going to write an introduction for your non-chronological report. An introduction tells the reader what your report is going to be about. I would like you to think about your report that you started to plan yesterday, it is about different island animals which include mammals, reptiles and birds.

Below, there are some example non chronological reports that you can have a look at the introduction paragraph and how it is structured and what they have included. You may be able to magpie similar ideas for your introduction. As a challenge- see if you can include a question in your introduction to make it more engaging for the reader.

Maths

Red, Orange, Yellow and Green - Today you will be recapping how to estimate the answer in addition and subtraction. Here is a video to remind you how to estimate the answer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUKmbQjpu5A&t=1s. Once you have watched the video, have a go at completing the estimation worksheet. Remember, this is all learning that we have covered in class so you should understand the concepts. If you don’t have a printer, write the answers on a piece of paper with the question number in the margin.

Blue 2: Today you will be learning to measure temperature. Temperature is measured in degrees celsius (℃). Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 1: Today you will be learning to subtract by breaking apart. Remember to hold the first number in your head and backwards. You should be able to do this completely independently (an adult may need to read the questions for you). Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Geography

Today you will be learning about Europe’s mountains. First read through the PowerPoint to find out some important information about mountains.

Then, use google maps to locate the European mountains on the mountains worksheet. You will need to label the mountains on the map and then answer the extension questions.

Now answer these questions:

  • What is a mountain range?

  • What are two names for the top of a mountain?

  • What is the highest mountain in Europe? Which mountain range is it part of?

  • What is the highest peak in the European Alps?
