Reciprocal Reading

The Sheep Pig - Chapter 9

Read chapter 9 of 'The Sheep Pig.' Then, think about the key events that happened in this chapter.

Your task is to summarise the chapter in no more than 3 sentences.

Remember that a summary includes sentences that tell us about the main/important events that happened, not every small detail.

Maths

Red, Orange, Yellow and Green - Today you will be learning to plot fractions on a number line. Follow this link (https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/) to a video that should explain things clearly for you. Click ‘Week 2’ > scroll to ‘Lesson 1 - Step 6’ and watch the video. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 2- Today you will be learning to use arrays to create number sentences. Arrays are represented using rows and columns. The rows represent a group. If there are 4 rows, that represents 4 groups, and therefore, that number should come first in your number sentence. The number that comes after the multiplication sign should represent how many is in each row or group. If there are 5 circles in each row, the number sentence should show 4 X 5 = 20. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 1- Today you will be learning to make equal groups Remember, the groups are the collective, there is usually more than 1 in a group. Groups are represented in rows. If there are 3 rows that means there are 3 groups. How many are in each row is how many are in each group. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Topic

Today you are going to launch your rocket into space to go and investigate the sighting on the  moon that NASA reported to us, back in January. Watch this video of astronauts on a rocket launching into space. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5oM862gQY00

Now you have watched this, I want you to pretend that you were sitting on this rocket, being launched into space. You are going to write a diary entry about this take off into space that you have just completed as the first stage of your mission.

First, think about the events in order of what you have to do before you can get into the rocket and launch into space. Then think of words and phrases to describe each part of your day/mission to describe feelings, thoughts and things you saw/did before taking off and during the take off. Consider as many of these senses as you can:

  • sight
  • hear
  • feel
  • smell
  • taste

Jot down some words that you think may be important to include. Now you need to include these in a mini diary entry to tell me all about your day before and during the launch of your rocket into space. Please see below the attached files which includes a checklist of a diary entry to make sure you included each of the important features and there is a template that you may print to write on if you have a printer (if you do not have a printer, please write on paper and set it out as shown on the template).
