Literacy

Let’s get describing! Watch some of the underwater video here ……..

https://youtu.be/n4tzUnGv-yI

Can you talk about what you can see? What words are you using to describe the animals you see?

Can you use your ideas to write some describing sentences about an underwater creature? You can use the template attached or make your own.

Does each sentence make sense? Have you used your Fred fingers to spell words? Have you got finger spaces between your words? Are your letters well formed? Have you got a full stop at the end of each sentence? Is your writing clear and readable?

Don’t forget to make sure the letters you write are clear. Have you remembered your finger spaces between each word? Our aim is that everyone can read our fabulous writing so make sure it’s readable.

Maths

Good morning children, this week in maths we are learning about length, height and distance. Let’s start our maths off with recalling doubles, double 1 is 2, double 2 is 4, double 3 is 6 and double 4 is 8.

Today we are going to look at items that are heavier or lighter. Get objects from around the house with different weights. Give your child two objects and ask them which they THINK will be heavier or lighter? Now get them to hold both objects, which one is heavier and lighter? Encourage the children to use the language heavier or lighter. Attached is a power point to discuss with your child about which one is heavier and lighter.

Let’s finish off our maths with counting out objects from a larger group. Get a large group of counting objects and ask your child to get a certain amount of the pile, with them counting each object as they take it out.

Topic

Today we are learning all about starfish. Did you know ……?

  • They have no brain and no blood. ...
  • They can be really heavy. ...
  • They have a lot of birthdays! ...
  • Starfish in not a fish. ...
  • There are around 2,000 species of sea star. ...
  • They usually have five arms. ...
  • They cannot survive in fresh water. ...

Today we want you to use the template (or make your own) to create a starfish. You can collage, paint or colour. At school we are using bubble wrap to create patterns!
