Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Wednesday 17th June 2020

Hello Dahl class! I hope you're all safe and well. Did any of you hear the thunder last night? I was watching it out the window with Twig and Nina.

I am looking to schedule a Zoom meeting for Friday (after school hours). I will send the emails out today with the details so keep your eyes peeled.

Have a lovely day!

Reciprocal Reading

Today, we are going to begin reading chapter 6 of Nim’s Island.

Your Task: Once you have read today’s pages and I would like you to make a prediction. Predict why you think Nim shouted ‘I’ve got it!’ What do you think she means? What might she do?

Use 'I predict' and 'I think this because'.

Writing

Today, you are going to use the words that you have collected over the past two days to describe Nim and you are going to put these words into sentences and paragraphs. Below are some paragraphs that I would like you to include:

  • Introduction paragraph - this would tell me a little bit about Nim - who she is, where she lives, what kind of character is she?
  • Appearance - What does she look like?
  • Behaviour - What kind of person/character she is, how does she behave in the story, how does she treat other people?

Remember when you are completing a ‘big write’ you need to use your writing skills - cursive handwriting, capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, commas, expanded noun phrases, adjectives, similes etc.

Maths

ROYG - Today you will be learning to measure capacity. Capacity is measured in millilitres or litres. There are 1000ml in 1l. Capacity is the amount that something can hold e.g. a 1l beaker is at full capacity if it is holding 1l of liquid, or at half capacity when it has 500ml of liquid inside. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B2 - Today you will be learning about durations of time. You will have to work out the duration of time that has passed by working out how many full hours and minutes have gone by - count on to do this. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B1 - Today you will be learning to use systematic number bonds, this means they have a system/order.Watch this video to learn how it words: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFtwe7jfldQ. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

RE

Today we are going to begin a new topic about why Jesus is inspirational. So today we are going to think about the word ‘inspirational’ to begin with.

Make a list of your favourite heroes that are in movies that they like… e.g. Shrek, Buzz Lightyear, Monsters Inc, etc. What do these heroes have in common? What sort of people are they/how do they behave? What are their personality traits? Why do people like them? How do we show who our heroes are?

Can you think of a hero that is real life in the world? (Think about people who are in sports, music, TV, film, etc). What would a person do if inspired by one of these heroes?

Now you have thought about all of these traits/behaviours/heroes, you may now make a mindmap of what inspiring means. See below the template that you may draw onto a piece of paper and fill it in using what we have thought about.
