Literacy:

Mrs Maiden's Literacy Group:

Today, you are going to be continuing writing your retell of Fantastic Mr Fox. Today, you will be writing the build up. The purpose of the build up is to lead up to the main events and build suspense and excitement for the reader. Remember, in a retell we are summarising rather than writing about all of the small details.

In the build up, you will need to include:

  • The farmers using shovels to try and get the Fox Family.
  • Then the farmers using mechanical shovels.
  • Finally, the farmers using tractors to try to get the family out of their hole.
  • This ends in there being a crater with the family down a hole at the very bottom.
  • The farmers deciding to camp out and watch the hole till the foxes come out.

To make this exciting for the reader, you could:

  • Include exciting, descriptive vocabulary.
  • Include some speech between characters, punctuated correctly.
  • Use fronted adverbials at the start of sentences that show where, when and how. E.g.

In the deep, damp hole, …

One gloomy evening, …

Sneakily, …

  • The characters’ thoughts and feelings (make them exciting, not ‘happy’ or ‘sad’)

Mrs Worrallo’s Literacy Group:

This week we are going to focus on the different characters in Fantastic Mr Fox and describe them!

Each day we are going to describe a different character. On Friday we are going to compare two of them!

Tuesday – Describe Badger.

Wednesday – Describe Mrs Fox.

Thursday – Describe Bunce.

Friday – Compare Badger and Mrs Fox.

Today, we are going to describe Mrs Fox. Start by talking about her to an adult.

  • What does she look like?
  • What does she do?

Now open up the Blue Group Activity. Find the sheet about Mrs Fox and write two sentences about him.

Today we are going to learn about Statistics (pictograms, tally charts, bar charts and tables).

As a warm-up, let’s practise one of our time-tables using the link below:
