Reciprocal Reading 

Today, we are going to read Chapter 2 of Nim’s Island. I would like you to read today’s pages and then you are going to answer some questions. 

Q1- Who is Galileo?

Q2- Why did Nim give up fishing and go and read a book on Selkie’s rock?

Q3- How would you feel if someone said you were not very good at telling stories like Nim did about Selkie? 

Q4- Why do you think that Nim might have felt excited, brave and a tiny bit afraid? 

Q5- What was Nim’s mother smiling at in the photograph?

Grammar 

In grammar today, you are going to be learning about using the correct tense in your writing because that is one of your year 3 learning jobs. It is important that you use the present perfect form of verbs (doing words). That you means you must understand and recognise past tense and present tense. Go through the PowerPoint below and then you need to complete your group’s activity sheets. 

Maths

Red, Orange, Yellow and Green: Today you will begin learning about mass and capacity. Mass is measured in grams or kilograms and capacity is measured in millilitres or litres. Today's focus is measuring mass. Remember, you must include the unit of measurement with your answer e.g. 40g. Attached is an image to show the difference and a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Art 

This week in Art, I would like you to create a portrait of Nim by looking closely at the front cover of our book.

I would like you to create your portrait using materials from your garden, or an outdoor space if you do not have a garden. 

Attached are some examples of portraits that have been created using garden materials. You need to think carefully about the colours, textures and materials you are using for different parts of Nim’s face.
