Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Tuesday 9th June 2020

Hello Dahl class! It was lovely to see some of you today on our class Zoom meeting.

Myself and Miss Sharpe are going to schedule a Zoom meeting for all of Year 3 for this Thursday (11th June) at 2pm.

Look out for the email today for you to join us.

Have a lovely day!

Reciprocal Reading

Today, we are going to read the rest of Chapter 1 in our new book ‘Nim’s Island’. Once you have read these pages today, you are going to clarify some words that we have come across in this book so far so that we understand the meaning within the story.

Remember you may use a dictionary to find the meaning of these words and it is expected that you write a sentence or two explaining the meaning of each word. Here is an online dictionary for if you do not have one at home: https://www.dictionary.com/.

  • spyglass
  • reef
  • shrill
  • snub
  • supplies
  • fronds
  • driftwood
  • frigate
  • plankton

Literacy

Today, I would like you to look at yesterday's literacy learning that you did. Then, use these ideas and develop them further by using your 5 senses to think of other descriptive language to describe the setting where Nim lives.

The five senses:

  • sight
  • smell
  • taste
  • feel
  • hear

Add these keywords to your plan from yesterday.

Maths

ROYG - Today you will be learning to construct 3D shapes. Before you work through the PowerPoint, take a look at this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwDjm6Ra1W4.  Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B2 - Today you will begin learning to make patterns with shapes. Pay careful attention to how the pattern looks and how many turns the shapes have made in the pattern. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B1 - Today you will be recapping using a numberline. You should be able to do this completely independently (an adult may need to read the questions for you). Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Music

Today in Music, you are going to continue your learning about Scottish musical instruments. You will need to research some types of musical instruments and then write a definition for each of the words listed below. It may also be nice to look at some pictures of the instruments online too. Remember- words in a dictionary are in alphabetical order so you must put the words in alphabetical order first!

Instruments:

  • bagpipes
  • scotch snap
  • accordion
  • bodran
  • drone
  • clarsach
  • tin whistle
  • fiddle

Please see below a document with your task on and then on the next pages there are templates to use for your dictionary. You may make your own dictionary on a piece of paper if you do not have a printer.
