Reciprocal Reading

Today we are going to continue reading chapter 15 of Nim’s Island. 

Once you have read today’s pages, I would like you to write a summary of this second half of the chapter. Remember a summary is only 2 or 3 sentences long. 

Grammar

Today, we are going to be recapping grammar, punctuation and spelling skills we have learnt. I would like you to click on your groups sheet and have a go at the SPaG revision/recap mat. You may do this on paper if you do not have a printer. 

Maths

Today you are going to continue revising the topics we have covered so that you remember everything ready for Year 4 learning. There are 2 revision mats that I would like you to have a go at.  Remember, this is all learning that we have covered in class so you should understand the concepts. If you don’t have a printer, write the answers on a piece of paper with the question number in the margin. 

Science

As it is our last Science lesson as a class, I thought it would be nice to have a go at a fun experiment with a grown up from home. 

Here are 2 different options you can choose from:

Homemade Lava Lamp
You will need - a bottle, food colouring, oil, water and an alka-seltzer tablet (adult supervision is essential for this).

Because oil and water have different densities, when you mix them together, the water sinks to the bottom. When you add food coloring, which is water based, it will sink to the bottom as well.

You will need to fill a bottle with water and then add some drops of food colouring and oil.

Then, ask an adult to crumble in an alka-seltzer tablet. It reacts with the water, causing colored droplets of water to rise to the top where they then pop, release air, and sink back to the bottom.

This creates a similar show to what you'd see in a lava lamp.

Rainbow in a Glass
This experiment also takes advantage of density to create a rainbow in a glass. When you add sugar to a liquid, it causes the solution to become more dense. The more sugar you add, the more dense the solution is.

If you have four different solutions that are all different colors and densities, the colors will layer on top of each other — the denser, more sugary solutions will sit on the bottom and the lightest will sit on the top.

You could find some liquids that are different colours and contain different amounts of sugar OR you could add different food colouring to water and give each liquid a different amount of sugar. The liquid with the most sugar should float to the bottom.
