Reciprocal Reading

Today, we are going to continue reading chapter 13 of Nim’s Island.

Once you have read today’s pages, predict what you think might happen to Alex Rover next? Will she make it to Nim’s island safely?

Use:

I predict...I think this because...

Literacy

Yesterday in literacy, you should have designed your own superhero for the story of Nim’s Island. This superhero is the one person who is going to save Nim from the storm by using their superpowers.

Today, I would like you to plan an ‘S’ plan for the following points:

  • How does the superhero find out about the trouble Nim is in?
  • How does the superhero get there?
  • What do they do when they get there?
  • How do they save the day/tackle the storm?
  • How does the story end - are they all happy? Is there much damage to the island? Does the superhero end up being invited to live on the island with Nim and Jack as a way of thanking the superhero?

Remember, when planning on an ‘S’ plan, you can draw pictures for each part of the story and you may write key words around each picture to help remind you of the key events/interesting vocabulary.

Maths

ROYG - Today you are going to revise column multiplication. This is a formal method for finding the answer to bigger multiplication sums such as 34x3. Watch the video which shows you how to find the answer using column multiplication: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k3JRTxFZZIs. Remember, you must add the numbers you carry over to the next column, not multiply them. This is all learning that we have covered in class so you should understand the concepts. If you don’t have a printer, write the answers on a piece of paper with the question number in the margin.

B2 - Today you are going to continue revising the topics we have covered so that you remember everything ready for Year 4 learning. There are 2 revision mats that I would like you to have a go at.  Remember, this is all learning that we have covered in class so you should understand the concepts. If you don’t have a printer, write the answers on a piece of paper with the question number in the margin.

B1 - Today you will be learning to find the difference. You will need to hold the smallest number in your head and count forwards or you could do the big number take away the small number. You should be able to do this completely independently (an adult may need to read the questions for you). Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Science

Today you will begin to learn about food chains. You must first read through the PowerPoint to find out about these keywords:

  • Producer
  • Consumer
  • Prey
  • Predator

Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, I would like you to design your own food chain featuring a rabbit. Think carefully about what a rabbit consumes and what would prey on the rabbit.

When you have created your food chain with the correct arrows, you must label your food chain using the key words (producer, consumer, prey, predator). You must also label whether they are herbivores, omnivores or carnivores, which you learnt about in last week's science.
