Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Tuesday 31st March 2020

Hello King-Smith Class!

Thank you for sending me fantastic photographs of your work, yesterday! I have really enjoyed looking through it and seeing how amazing you are all truly doing with your learning, at home!

Keep sending me your work, carry on learning and stay super safe at home with your family!

Thank you, Miss Sharpe. smiley

Spelling

Today I would like you to practise spelling some of your common exception words. Below, are the words I would like you to practise, according to your writing group. I would like you to practise spelling these words using the pyramid technique, which is where you add another letter each time that you write the word. Attached below, is an example. This repeated practise of spelling the words helps you remember the pattern of letters.

Challenge - use 3 of these words in sentences.

Red, Orange, Yellow and Green Words -

actually, bicycle, business, certain, different, experience

Blue:

Blue 2 Words -

floor, climb, hour, sure, whole, any

Blue 1 Words -

today, said, are , were, be, by

Maths

Red, Orange, Yellow and GreenToday you will be learning to write tenths as decimals. Remember tenths means that the denominator (bottom number)  of the fraction is 10. The top number represents how many tenths there are, which is the number you will use to help you write the fraction as a decimal. Follow this link (https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/) to watch a video to help explain things clearly. Click ‘Week 1’ > scroll down to ‘Lesson 5 - Tenths as decimals’ and watch the video. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 2 -  Today you will be learning to use pictures to create multiplication number sentences. Remember the groups should come first in the number sentence and how many are in each group should come after the multiplication symbol. For example, if there were 4 plates with 2 strawberries on each, the number sentence would be 4 X 2 because there are 4 groups with 2 in each. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 1 - Today you will be learning to make doubles. A trick you can use to make doubling easier is counting in 2’s. For example, to double 4, you could count in 2’s 4 times to find the answer. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Topic

Now you have your rocket to travel to space, you are going to need to pack a suitcase or a small bag to take with you. However, because it's a rocket and there is not a lot of room, so you can only take 5 key items that you think you are going to need. Think carefully about key items that are important to take with you.

Your task is to draw and label items in a suitcase. Then write a few sentences to explain what you are taking and why you are taking them with you, on your journey to space. There is a template below to help you, however drawing your own is fine too.
