Today, we are going to continue reading chapter 10 of Nim’s Island.
Once you have read today’s pages. You are going to use the text to answer some comprehension questions, in full sentences.

As mentioned yesterday, you are going to be writing a non-chronological report on Friday. It is going to be a factual piece of writing about animals that you might find on an island.
We are going to need to choose some animals to write about first. Below, there is a list of animals from different species. I would like you to choose 2 mammals, 2 reptiles and 2 amphibians to write about.
Once you have a total of these 6 animals I would like you to use any information books you may have at home or use the internet to research some information about these animals. Use the question prompts below to research and find out about each animal. You will need to make notes on this template of a planning sheet below or on your own piece of paper using this layout to help you.
Red, Orange, Yellow and Green: Today you will be recapping column subtraction. Here is a video to remind you how to do column subtraction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y6M89-6106I&t=196s. Once you have watched the video, have a go at completing the column subtraction worksheet. Remember, this is all learning that we have covered in class so you should understand the concepts. If you don’t have a printer, write the answers on a piece of paper with the question number in the margin.
Blue 2: Today you will begin learning to measure capacity in litres (l). There are 1000ml in 1l. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).
Blue 1: Today you will be having another go at ‘how many left’. You will need to hold the number in your head and count backwards. You should be able to do this completely independently (an adult may need to read the questions for you). Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).
Today you will be learning how to categorise animals into herbivores, omnivores and carnivores. First, read through the PowerPoint to find out how to classify animals into these categories.
Now, have a go at the sorting activity using what you learnt in the PowerPoint. See if you can do this independently, without looking back at the PowerPoint.
