Reciprocal Reading

Today, we are going to begin reading chapter 4 of our book ‘The Legend of Captain Crow’s Teeth.’

Our reading focus today is going to be on comprehension questions, so you will need to read the pages and then answer the questions below.

Q1 - Find and copy the sentence that tells us that Marty had company while he waited for Will.

Q2 - Why did Will want Marty to tell the girl to ‘hoppit’?

Q3 - Why do you think that Marty said ‘Wow. I really like her’?

Q4 - What was Marty’s plan to get home on time?

Q5 - How did Will feel about going across the rocks to get home?

  • Remember all of your sentences need to be written in cursive handwriting and need to have capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.

Literacy

This week, we will be writing a description of Will’s journey home across the rocks. We will be using our grammar from yesterday's lesson to help us do this, successfully. To help us use our grammar learning and apply it to our writing skills, we will be editing and improving sentences today. I have written an explanation of my journey when I walked to the beach. I tried my best but I think it is a little boring, can you help to make it more interesting?

Your Task - You will need to read it through and think about the verbs/adjectives and expanded noun phrases I have used or what I could use instead. It needs to be interesting and the words need to be powerful to paint a picture in the reader's head. I have underlined words and phrases that may need to be improved BUT you may not need to change ALL of them, you need to choose which ones you will improve, carefully. I have also left spaces for you to add in some adjectives/verbs and adverbs or expanded noun phrases of your own.

Please think about which group you are in for literacy and find your group’s sheet below.

Maths

Red, Orange, Yellow and Green - Today begin your learning about the properties of shape. Today’s focus is turns and angles. Remember, an angle is the space between two lines that meet/cross over. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 2 - Today you will begin learning about length and height. Remember, height is how tall a shape/object is and length is how long it is.Today you will focus on measuring length in centimetres. Be sure to look at which number the object starts at on the number line as it might not always be 0 - count on to find the answer by putting the start number in your head. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 1 - Today you will be learning to count one less. Try to work the answers out mentally, by putting the start number in your head and counting backwards. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Science

Today you are going to learn about flowers, specifically the parts of a flower and the process of pollination and fertilisation.

All you will need for the activities is 1 flower. If you do not have access to a flower, there is a flower attached below called ‘Paper Flower for Dissection’ that you can use.

Work your way through the PowerPoint attached and complete the activity sheets. Feel free to print them off or jot your answers onto a piece of paper.

Blue - Complete the activity sheets with 1 star.

Red and Orange - Complete the activity sheets with 2 stars.

Yellow and Green - Complete the activity sheets with 3 stars.
