Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Thursday 7th May 2020

Hello Dahl class, I hope you are all well! Today is our last day of work this week as tomorrow is a bank holiday for V-E day. V-E day commemorates 75 years since the end of World War 2, a day where peace was celebrated. You can show your appreciation for the people who fought for our country on this bank holiday Friday, by taking part in the 2 minutes silence at 11am.

Have a lovely bank holiday weekend in the sunshine and I will be back with more home-learning activities on Mondaysmiley

Reciprocal Reading

Yesterday, our pages ended with ‘Well, well, well, what does we ‘ave ‘ere?’ What do you think Crow and his mates are going to do to the cabin boy?

When you have finished reading the end of this chapter, I would like you to write a summary (no more than 3 sentences) of chapter 2. Remember a summary covers the most important parts.

Writing

For today’s writing task, I thought we could do something we haven’t done before. Now you know a bit more about Captain Crow and his mates, I would like you to apply to join their crew.

Below are some examples of pirate applications.

The first thing I would like you to do is imagine yourself as a pirate. What would you look like? What would your personality be like? Think of some interesting adjectives to describe yourself as a pirate. Keep in mind that you must be the type of pirate that would fit into Captain Crow’s crew.

Then, think about what it takes to be part of Captain Crow’s crew e.g. being strong, being fierce, being brave etc. What skills would you need? What would you want to do as part of their crew? You must try to convince Crow that you are the best person for the job.

When you have collected a range of describing words, it is time to fill out your application form. You can print one of the examples attached below or hand write your application using the subheadings.

If you want, you can then draw yourself as a pirate to go along with the application form.

Maths

ROYG - Today you will be learning to tell the time to the minute. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B2 - Today you will be learning to recognise a third. Remember a third is when something is split/divided into three equal groups. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B1 - Today you will be learning to describe positions, but this time you will use words ‘top, middle, bottom, above and below.’ Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Spelling

ROYG - Today you are going to recap the learning of the spelling rule for creating adverbs using the suffix -ly, where the root word ends in ‘y’ with more than one syllable we change the ‘y’ to an ‘i’ and then add ‘ly.’ Please read through the PowerPoint below to help you to remember this rule. Then, with today’s words, you are going to practise the pyramid spelling method that we have practised before. I have attached a wordsearch in case you would like to do that instead (if you have a printer).

B2 -  Today you are going to recap the learning of the spelling rule when adding -ing, -ed, -er, -est and -y to words ending with -e with a consonant before it. Remember vowels are ‘a, e, i, o and u’ so consonants are all other letters of the alphabet. Please read through the PowerPoint below to help you to remember this rule. Then, with today’s words, you are going to practise the pyramid spelling method that we have practised before. I have attached a wordsearch in case you would like to do that instead (if you have a printer).

B1 - Today you are going to recap the learning of the spelling rule for compound words. Remember a compound word is a word that is made of 2 separate parts put together. Please read through the PowerPoint below to help you to remember this rule. Then, with today’s words, you are going to practise the pyramid spelling method that we have practised before. I have attached a wordsearch in case you would like to do that instead (if you have a printer).
