Thursday 7th May

Thursday

Carle class, today is thoughtful Thursday. Hope you are all ok. We are thinking about you lot’s at the moment. Are you missing your friends and family? Remember it’s important we all keep talking at a time like this! We want you to keep talking to us too! Tomorrow is bank holiday so the school is closed, please take this day to enjoy spending with making memories with your family. We will see you back here on Monday.

Remember to practise your sounds daily. RWI will be holding daily virtual lessons for children to practise their sounds:

Set 1 sounds at 9:30am or 12:30pm

Set 2 sounds at 10:00am or 1:00pm

They have updated these lessons to include word time for set 1 speed sounds and spelling for set 2 and 3. There is also “Storytime with Nick” three times a week and some poems that your child can learn and perform.

Literacy

Today we would like you to look at some vegetable recipes. Read some instructions together and follow the recipes to create some vegetable-based meals. The children may also like to try making and tasting some of the recipes mentioned in the story, like rhubarb pie, beetroot salad or pea soup.

Following on from yesterday’s activities we would like you to create your own recipe sheet using their favourite vegetable recipes! This is called instruction writing. You need to provide all the steps for Mrs Evans and Miss Pegler to follow. Don’t forget to list the ingredients you used first. Then write a sentence for each stage of the recipe. We would love you to send us your recipes or pictures of anything you have made.

Does each sentence make sense? Have you used your Fred fingers to spell words? Have you got finger spaces between your words? Are your letters well formed? Have you got a full stop at the end of each sentence? Is your writing clear and readable?

Don’t forget to make sure the letters you write are clear. Have you remembered your finger spaces between each word? Our aim is that everyone can read our fabulous writing so make sure it’s readable.

Maths

This week in maths we are going to start off with recapping estimating. Put an amount of objects in front of your child and ask them to estimate how many objects they can see. Model to your child using the word estimate, I estimate that there are 7 objects. When they have estimated count how many objects are there. Were they close?

Yesterday you supported your child to complete the take away activity. Recap what to do with your child and the take away and equals sign. Ask your child to complete the sheet below on their own. If they need your help that is fine, model one to them and then ask them to carry on again on their own. Please let us know if your child really struggled with this and we will recap it at some point before the end of the year.

Let’s finish off our maths lesson by getting familiar with coins and notes. Place plastic or real coins in front of your child and let them explore them. What can they see? What numbers do they have on them? Are they all the same? What is different about them? Name the coins with your child

Topic

Today we would like you to print with vegetables. Cut them into different shapes and print using different vegetables. If you wish to you could paint different vegetables rather than printing with them. What colours are you going to use? How many vegetables are you going to paint?
