Reciprocal Reading

Today, you will be continuing to read our new book, The Iron Man. Today’s reading pages are 4-6 up to ‘strange trio went searching’. Work through the Reading PowerPoint and complete today’s written task. The chapter is attached below.

Here is the order we usually follow in class for Reciprocal Reading:

  • Predict (sensible guess)
  • Read the pages
  • Clarify the meaning of words you didn’t know
  • Answer the questions
  • Summarise

Literacy

Today, you are going to practise using some descriptive writing techniques that you will be able to include in your character description of the Iron Man.

Blue - I would like you to use expanded noun phrases in descriptive sentences. Write 5 sentences using this technique, that describe Iron Man’s appearance or personality.

ROY - I would like you to use expanded noun phrases and similes in sentences describing the Iron Man. Write 5 sentences using these techniques, that describe Iron Man’s appearance or personality.

Green - I would like you to use expanded noun phrases, similes, fronted adverbials and personification. Write 5 sentences using these techniques, that describe Iron Man’s appearance or personality.

Here is an example/explanation of what these elements are:

  • Expanded noun phrase - adjective, adjective noun e.g. On the Iron Man’s face, there were two large, glowing eyes.
  • Simile - when you use as or like to compare something to something else e.g. The Iron Man was as tall as a house/The Iron Man was tall like a house.
  • Fronted adverbials - A phrase (group of words) at the start of the sentence that tell us where, when or how something happened. Fronted adverbials are followed by commas e.g. On top of his head, he has... / Slowly, he.../ When he walks, he makes a loud clanging sound
  • Personification - Giving something that is not human, human features. e.g. The cliff stood tall as the Iron Man peered at the ocean.

Maths

Green - Today, you will be learning about efficient methods of multiplication. For a method to be efficient, it means the method must be quick and organised or it requires the least working out. For example 13 x 4 - it is easier to work out 10 x 4 and 3 x 4 and add these together instead of adding 4 13 times.
Attached is a PowerPoint to work through and a question sheet for you to have a go at independently. You also have an answer sheet so that you can check your answers afterwards.

ROY - Today, you will be learning to multiply by 3. Remember, multiply means the same as lots of.For this, you will need to use your knowledge of the 3 x table. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through and a question sheet for you to have a go at independently. You also have an answer sheet so that you can check your answers afterwards.

Blue - Today, you are learning to compare numbers to 20. When comparing, you are recognising the value of numbers, and which numbers are smaller, bigger or equal to each other. The important thing when comparing is to learn the language e.g.more, least, fewer, bigger, greater, equal. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through and a question sheet for you to have a go at independently. You also have an answer sheet so that you can check your answers afterwards.

RE

Today in RE, you will be looking at where Islam was founded and who founded the Muslim faith.

With a grown up, read through the attached PowerPoint and then answer the questions on the attached question sheet.
