Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Thursday 2nd April 2020

Good morning Dahl Class! Today, you have an extra activity on top of your usual 3. This is because we would like to finish The Sheep Pig in time for Easter. Keep up the hard work!!

Reciprocal Reading

The Sheep Pig - Chapter 10

Read chapter 10 of ‘The Sheep Pig.’ Then think about the key events that happened in this chapter.

Your task is to answer these questions. Remember to answer the questions in full sentences, just like we do at school!

1. Why did other farm animals become fat?
2. What do you think Mrs Hogget is talking about when she says ‘the pig is big enough to you-know-what, not that we ever shall now...’ ?
3. Why did Farmer Hogget grin to himself on page 100?
4. What was the final stage of his plan?
5. Why was Farmer Hogget relieved that the entry form said ‘Name of Competitor’ instead of ‘Name of Dog’?

Writing Plan

This week you will be writing your own informal letter home, as if you are up in space. An informal letter is a letter that you would write to somebody you know well and are familiar with. Read through the ‘How to Write an Informal Letter’ PowerPoint to learn more about how to write your letter.

After that, open the document ‘Informal Letter Examples’.

See if you can identify these features on the letters - I have done the first one for you, see if you can do the second one:

  • The sender’s address
  • The date
  • An appropriate greeting
  • An introduction
  • Chatty/informal expressions
  • A conclusion
  • A complimentary close
  • The sender’s name or signature

To finish, I would like you to consider:
Who will you be writing to from space?
What would you like to tell them about?
How do you feel in space?
What have you seen?

Maths

ROYG - Today you will be learning to find a fraction of a set of objects. Follow this link (https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/) to a video that should explain things clearly for you. Click ‘Week 2’ > scroll to ‘Lesson 2 - Step 7’ and watch the video. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B2 - Today you will be learning to multiply using the 2 times table. Make sure you count in 2’s to find the answer and remember the multiplication sign means ‘lots of’. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B1 - Today you will be learning to share equally. When you share equally, there must be an equal amount in each group. You can share equally by drawing big circles to represent each group. Then share the amount 1 at a time into each group. Remember to count in your 2, 5 and 10 times table to find the answer if you can. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Topic

After landing in space, you have arrived on the moon.

Now, you are about to step foot on the moon and go and explore the suspicious sighting. Here is a video of what walking on the moon looks like .https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOdbzJpzNHY
(There is also a picture uploaded below of what the suspicious sighting looks like).

Imagine this is you on the moon. Think about these questions:
Where will you go?
What might you see?
What will you do when you see the suspicious object?
What is the suspicious object?
How do you explore it?

Now you have thought about these questions, I would like you to write another mini diary entry about your day of exploring the suspicious sighting on the moon.

Please see below the attached files which includes a checklist of a diary entry to make sure you included each of the important features and there is a template that you may print to write on if you have a printer (if you do not have a printer, please write on paper and set it out as shown on the template).
