Reciprocal Reading

The Sheep Pig - Chapter 5

Today we would like you to read chapter 5. Identify any words you do not know the meaning of. If you have access to a dictionary then check their definitions. If you do not have a dictionary, then use this internet dictionary (https://www.dictionary.com/browse/google) to find the definitions. Make sure you have listened to chapter 4 on yesterday’s storytime before you begin. Be sure to find the definitions of these words, as well as any others you need clarifying:

  • Butchering
  • Perched
  • Departure
  • Hurriedly
  • Jostling
  • Protesting
  • Dominance

Maths

ROYG - Today you will be learning to count in tenths. For example, if there is 1/10 of a shape shaded then 1 out of 10 of the parts are shaded. Similarly, if there is 8/10 of a shape shaded then 8 out of the 10 parts would be shaded. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B2 - Today you will be learning to add equal groups. Repeated addition is another way of looking at multiplication. If there are 3 plates that have 4 cakes, that means there are 3 groups or lots of 4. This could be shown in repeated addition as 4 + 4 + 4 = 12. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B1 - Today you will be learning to add equal groups. Remember if there are 3 plates that have 4 cakes, that means there are 3 groups or lots of 4. Or, there would be 3 jumps on the numberline that will go up in 4 steps. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Geography/History

Today you are going to be learning about Amy Johnson, who was a famous aviator. There is an information PowerPoint and a non-fiction text that you can read to help you find out about her.
When you have read this, please look at the map labelled 'World Map' in the documents section and locate/identify the places that Amy flew over, where she started and where she landed.
After this task, we would like you to write a fact file about her using the question prompts as subheadings. Remember, a subheading tells us what each paragraph is going to be about. (If you have a printer then you can write on the fact file, if not then paper is fine).
