Reciprocal Reading

Today we are going to read the blurb of our new book. 

Once you have read the blurb, think about what it said and answer these questions. 

1. In the blurb it said- ‘Captain Crow will not rest…’ What do you think the words ‘not rest’ mean? Write a sentence to explain the meaning of this. 

2. What type of book/story are we reading? 

3. What do you think a cabin boy is? Research the names of different jobs that can be done on a ship. I would like you to write the name of the job and a sentence explaining the job and their role. 

Maths 

Red, Orange, Yellow and Green - Today you will be learning to find fractions that are equivalent to ½. Remember the word equivalent means equal or the same. Follow this link (https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/) to a video that should explain things clearly for you. Click ‘Summer Term - Week 1’ > ‘Lesson 3’ and watch the video. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 2- Today you will be learning to make equal groups by grouping. When you share into groups, you are dividing. Remember, if the groups are equal, there must be the same amount in each group.When you are grouping, you can draw circles around the amount that should be in each group. If you are dividing by 5, there should be 5 in each group. If you are dividing by 4, there should be 4 in each group. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Religious Education (RE) 

Today in RE, we are going to start a new topic. We have previously learnt about Holy buildings for different religions, Holy books (the Bible and Qu’ran) and how these books compare. We are now going to learn about special, sacred places and pilgrims. 

First, to begin with I would like you to look through the Powerpoint (that is attached below) about the ‘Seven Wonders of the World.’   Then I would like you to identify your own ‘wonders of the world’. They could be natural places or man-made or a mixture of the two. (Remember man-made means it was made by humans and natural means that it happened naturally on its own over time or due to weather conditions etc. Can you choose seven places you would go, one for each of these: 

• excitement

• fun

• love

• faith

• peace

• inspiration

• memory

You may use the internet to find places if you need ideas. Write sentences to explain where you would visit for each purpose and why you chose there. These seven reasons to make a journey are significant in human journeys and some apply to pilgrimages too. 

At home, talk to and interview parents to find out about their most meaningful journeys that they have been on. Use these questions to interview grownups at home. 

1. What is the most meaningful journey that you have ever been on? 

2. Where did you go? 

3. Why did you go to this place?

4. What did you do there? 

5. What was special about it? 

6. Would you go back there again? 

Show your findings by writing an interview script (questions and answers).
