Phonics

Miss Sharpe's group - I would like to join in with the live phonics lesson streaming on youtube at 9:30am (remember if you miss it - don't worry! It will be on the youtube channel for 24hrs)
You are learning set 3 sounds so make sure this is the one that you watch. You should also watch and join in with the spelling video to match the sound which you are learning today. You will need some paper and a pencil to write the words on.
It's really important to keep practising your sounds.

Here's the link:

Reading

We are still reading 'The Woman who Fooled the Fairies', I hope you are enjoying it so far.

Watch the video below to join in with your learning. Make sure you pause when asked to and answer the questions.

Today you are going to find and copy important words and phrases and determine whether a sentence is true or false.

Use your ninja eyes to skim and scan through the sentences to locate the correct part to copy.

When you answer the true or false questions, look back over the text and read the sentences carefully to work out if the statement is true or false.

Today's song is the 'Dance and Freeze 2' song! smiley

Maths: Red, Orange, Yellow and Green groups

Today’s lesson is to learn about lines of symmetry.

A line of symmetry is a line that cuts a shape exactly in half. If you folded the shape along the line, both halves would match. Sometimes shapes can have more than one line of symmetry!

Lines of symmetry can be vertical or horizontal lines of symmetry. Vertical lines are lines that go straight up of down, horizontal lines going straight across.
See these examples to help you:

Watch the video below to help you learn about lines of symmetry.

For this lesson you will need a ruler, if you do not have a ruler try to find something with a straight edge that you can use as a ruler.

You are ready to complete your learning now!

Maths: Blue group

Today we are going to carry on our learning about counting in 2s.

look at this number line. Can you count in 5s forwards? Now can you count back in 5s?

Now you have practised counting on fives, you are going to use this to work out how many objects there are altogether. Look at the picture.

There are 5 oranges in a bag, so we can count in fives to find out how many oranges there are altogether.

Now watch the video to carry on your learning about counting in 5s. Remember to have your activity sheet ready.

Writing

Have you wondered why Rabbit went to the library to get a book about wolves? Today, we are going to find out. Watch this short film.

So why do you think he went to the library?

I think he went because he needed to find out as much as he could about wolves because his friends were disappearing and he thought it was the wolf.

I would like you to write about what happened to the rabbits. It is going to be written a little like a counting poem like:

There were ten in the bed and the little one said roll over, roll over.

So they all rolled over and one fell out. There were nine in the bed…

Watch the video below to see Miss Meakin show you how to write about what happened to the rabbits.

The rest of the pictures are on the video so you will only need a pencil and paper to write your sentences.

If you want to write the sentences next to the pictures, I have also added the worksheet so you can do this.

Remember to use a capital letter to start a sentence and a full stop to end a sentence.

You might be able to use an adjective in a sentence.

You might use an exclamation mark to show surprise or shock.

I have included a word bank of number words to help you as well.

I look forward to seeing your writing.

Chinese new year was on the 12th February this year, the day we broke up for the holidays! This year is the year of the Ox. Click on the power point below to learn about the history of Chinese New Year.

Do you know anyone who celebrates Chinese New Year? During the celebrations people make lanterns and write a wish for the new year on them.

Watch this video to help you learn more about how people celebrate.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/assemblies-ks1-ks2-chinese-new-year-festivals-lunar-festival/zp993j6

I’ve attached a lantern template so you can try this at home. People who celebrate Chinese New Year also have a meal with their family and throw party where some people dress up and dance around as the dragon from the story.

I’ve attached a paper dragon you can make yourself. As this year is the year of the Ox, I have attached a picture of the Ox for you to colour in.

Have fun learning about Chinese New Year!

PSHE

In our PSHE learning this week we are thinking about why it is important to be a good listener.

We have to listen to lots of different people in life. Our grown-ups, our friends and our teachers and lots of other people to.

There are lots of reasons why we need to listen to people.
Can you think of any?

Here are some that I came up with:
* To learn things
* To stay safe
* To be polite
* So you can help people
* To hear funny things

Do you think you are a good listener?

How do you think people feel when you listen to them?

Work your way through the power point, thinking and answering the questions along the way.

Then you have a worksheet to complete to show you know how to be a good listener.

To finish, here’s a song to learn what you can do to become a whole body listener so people around you know you are listening to them.

.

Did you hear the different ways to be a whole body listener?
Following these steps will make sure the people who are talking to you know that you’re listening to them!

Story time

Time for a new story!
Miss Meakin is going to be reading the first part of a story called Baba Yaga. This story is very different to Mantu the Elephant.
Remember to check back tomorrow for the rest of the story.
