Year 2 Reading
Let’s look at tens and ones today.
When we look at tens and ones, we are looking to see how many bundles of ten we have and how many more there are.
So, 28 would have 2 tens and 8 ones.

Now you have learnt to draw a pictogram you are going to move on to interpret a pictogram. If you are interpreting a pictogram it means you can explain and understand what the pictogram is showing.
Being able to interpret a pictogram is a good skill to have as it can help us to compare a number of different things.
Watch this learning video and join in with the activities to learn how to interpret a pictogram.
When you complete your learning, remember to check the key as this tells you how much each picture is representing.
You might find it helpful to write the amount being represented in the rows after you have counted them.
Today we are going to revise one more and one less than a number to 20.
Look at the number line.
Find the number 10.
If we want to find 1 less than 10 we need to jump back 1 space. 1 less than 10 is 9.
Find the number 4.
If we want to find 1 more than 4 we need to jump forward 1 space. 1 more than 4 is 5.

Today you are going to write the story about Officer Pugh.
Yesterday you sequenced pictures and these pictures will now help you write your story.
Now you know what happens in your story you need to think about the words you are going to use to make the story interesting for the reader.
How are you going to start your story?
When does the story take place? – one day, one morning, one afternoon?
Can you some adjectives in your story/ - words to describe Officer Pugh or some of the robbers.
Can you use some interesting verbs (doing words)? Instead of ran what other verbs could you use?
Instead of Officer Pugh got the robber. What verbs could you use instead? (grabbed, caught, held on tightly)
Can you include thoughts and feelings? How does Officer Pugh feel at different parts of the story? (happy, sad, exhausted, tired, overjoyed, worried, scared)

Here is the start to my story:
Officer Pugh was working in the local station one cold December morning when the station officer came to see him. He told Pugh about the dreadful news that brand new toys were going missing from lots of children all over London Town! Families did not know what to do. Who was stealing all the toys? Why were they taking them? The police had to find the criminals and catch them as soon as possible!
There is a lot to think about when you write a story but I know you will do a fantastic job!

Blue group: Today you are going to finish writing your story using who, what doing, what colourful sentences.
Remember you need to look at each picture and think:
Who is in the picture?
What are they doing?
Don’t forget a capital letter to start your sentence and a full stop at the end of the sentence.
Don’t forget the little words!
Now it is your turn to have a go at wring about the last 3 pictures.
Christianity – The Parable of the Sower.
The story of the sower is an 'allegory' about the Kingdom of God. This means it can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, everything in the story represents something else. The man going out to plant the seeds is like Jesus going and telling everyone about God.

Today I would like you to retell the Parable of the Sower

Blue group: You are going to draw the pictures to tell the story.
When you have finished retelling the story, there is a word search for you to complete.
We have been learning lots about goals, achievements and difficulties. Today we are going to learn how to celebrate success!
Success is when you accomplish something. It could be something you had to try really hard to achieve.
Can you think of something that you worked hard at and felt proud of when you finally did it?
It could be something to do with your learning at school, a club or team you are a part of outside of school or a different personal achievement.
Take a look at the power point below, it will guide you through all of your learning activities. The first activity asks you to match behaviours and actions to the achievement, you will find the cards you need for this activity below here.
The second activity is to list your achievements in different areas of your life. I have left 2 areas blank for you to choose as in the example it uses music and sport and these might not suit all of you! You should write the achievements that match each area near to it.
Your final activity (I am working you hard today!) is to create some medals to show your success and achievements. The gold outlined one should be your biggest achievement! I am really looking forward to seeing what things you have achieved.
Blue group: You can design 1 medal to celebrate your success. Use your sounds to write what you have achieved on the front and then you can add a design or colour to your medal.
