The young wolf darted into the thicket - What do you think is happening in the story from this opening line?

lopes -

buck -

carcasses -

nimbly -

  1. Why does the wolf lose the scent of the buck?
  2. What is the 'kill stick' that the wolf refers to and why would it bite?
  3. Page 222 - Find and copy the phrase that suggests that there is a child in the story.
  4. On page 222 in the paragraph that starts, the half grown female, when the wolf notices the girl has eaten blackberries, how does it describe her and what is really meant by these words?

In 3 sentences summarise how the girl's version of events would be explained to her family when she got home later.
