Maths

Year 1 For your warm up count to 100 with this song.

Let's Get Fit | Count to 100 | 2020 Version | Jack Hartmann

This week we have been comparing numbers to see which is largest number and which is the smallest number. We use special symbols to help us.

Number Gators (Greater Than, Less Than Symbols Song)

Today we are going to use the >, < and = signs to compare numbers.

This song will help you!

Now try your learning activity.

Year 2 – This week we have been counting and making amounts of money.

If we wanted to make 50p we could use a 50p coin.

Or we could use five 10p coins.

Or we could use two 20p coins and a 10p. There are lots of different ways to make an amount.

Today you need to work out the two amounts of money and then find the difference between them. You can do this by comparing the coins and by counting on.

For example, if there is £1.20 and £1.27. The difference is 7p

Put 20 in your head and count on 21, 22, 23, 24. 25. 26, 27 which is a jump of 7.

Blue group – Today I would like you to find 1 less than a number up to 20. You can use the number line to help you. Remember that when you find 1 less you need to jump back.

Literacy

You are going to need some paper and a pencil for Literacy.

Today we are going to retell the story so far of “The owl who was afraid of the dark”

We read that Plop who is a Barn Owl is afraid of the dark so his mum asks him to go and find out about the dark. He meets a little boy who tells him that dark is exciting because you can watch fireworks.

In our last lesson we watched a firework display and collected words and phrases to describe the fireworks. Some of the words we thought of were:

Zoom

Fountain of dancing stars

Fill the sky with colourful stars

Whoosh into the air

Squiggles

Explosion

Wheeeee!

When you retell the story make sure you write some sentences that tell me what Plop saw when he watched the fireworks with his mum and dad.

I have included some pictures to remind you of the events of the story and you can listen to the first part of the story again by clicking on the video.

Year 1 - Remember to start sentences with a capital letter and end your sentences with a full stop.

See if you can use and to write longer sentences.

Year 2 – Remember to use correct punctuation, include extra detail about the fireworks to paint a picture in the readers head and try and use different conjunctions like and, but, because, when.

Blue group - Write your sentences using the picture prompts.

The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark

On a Thursday afternoon we practise our reading skills.

Year 1 and 2 - Read the text. Fred talk any words you are unsure of then answer the questions carefully.

Blue group – say the sounds. Practise the green words for the ditty then read the ditty. When you have finished tell a grown up why the pup was in the bath. Draw a picture of

 The pup in the mud.

and

The pup in the bath.
