Reciprocal Reading

Today, you will be reading pages 81-85 of our book Fantastic Mr Fox. This includes the ending of the story and some additional information that is included at the back of this Roald Dahl book where another of his stories is advertised. Your written task is a prediction.

The text is attached below along with the Reciprocal Reading PowerPoint that you can follow as you read the pages.

Here is the order we usually follow in class for Reciprocal Reading:

  • Predict (sensible guess)
  • Read the pages
  • Clarify the meaning of words you didn’t know
  • Answer the questions
  • Summarise

Literacy

Today, you will be finishing your retell of Fantastic Mr Fox by writing the ending.

The ending should include:

  • Mr Fox, the small fox and badger returning home.
  • The feast.
  • The farmers still waiting outside the hole.

To make this exciting for the reader, you could:

  • Include exciting, descriptive vocabulary.
  • Include some speech between characters, punctuated correctly.
  • Use fronted adverbials at the start of sentences that show where, when and how. E.g.

In the deep, damp hole, …

One gloomy evening, …

Sneakily, …

  • The characters’ thoughts and feelings (make them exciting, not ‘happy’ or ‘sad’)

Enjoy writing and be sure to send me your opening to our class email, I am looking forward to reading them.

PSHE

Today we are going to be thinking about new beginnings as you prepare to transition to your new classes.

Attached is a PowerPoint for you to read through with your grown up about new beginnings and changes. Sometimes, changes can feel scary but they are also exciting. There are different ways we can help ourselves when we are worried about changes.

After you have read through the PowerPoint, I would like you to complete the attached worksheet. You could print this or record your answers on paper.
