Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Thursday 14th May 2020

Hello again Dahl class - remember that I have scheduled our class meeting on Zoom at 12pm tomorrow. I hope to see you all there!

Have a lovely day!

Reciprocal Reading

Today we are going to continue reading chapter 3 of our story ‘The Legend of Captain Crow’s Teeth.’

Read these pages below and when you have, I would like you to write a summary of what you have read in this part of the chapter today.

Remember, a summary is short (2 or 3 sentences) and it should only tell the reader the key events (the most important parts) of the chapter.

Literacy

On Friday (tomorrow), you are going to write an explanation of what ‘phosphorescence’ is, this is going to be our big write. However, before we can write about this, we need to find out about its meaning first and any important/interesting facts that we can.

So, what is phosphorescence?

I would like you today to make notes (NOT SENTENCES) about what phosphorescence is. See if you can find out any interesting facts too. It would be interesting to search 'phosphorescence' on google images.

Once you have made notes on this topic, I would like you to have a look at the ‘Example of an Explanation Text’ and the ‘Example Features Explained’ documents. Make sure that you read them and begin thinking about the features carefully so you know what you need to include in tomorrow's writing.

Maths

ROYG - Today you will be learning to compare the duration. Remember, when comparing, you can use a number line to count on. Start with the earlier time and count on it in steps to the later time. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B2 - Today you will be learning to recognise the equivalence of ½ and 2/4. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B1 - Today you will be continuing to compare numbers by looking at the tens and ones. You need to try to use the language ‘more than’, ‘less than’, ‘bigger’, ‘smaller’, ‘equal’. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Spelling

ROYG - Today you are going to recap the learning of the spelling rule for creating adverbs using the suffix -ly (root word ends in ‘ic’ or ‘al’). Please read through the PowerPoint below to help you to remember this rule. Then, with today’s words, you are going to practise the pyramid spelling method that we have practised before. I have attached a wordsearch in case you would like to do that instead (if you have a printer).

B2 - Today you are going to recap the learning of the spelling rule when words make the ‘zh’ sound but are spelt with an ‘s'. Please read through the PowerPoint below to help you to remember this rule. Then, with today’s words, you are going to practise the pyramid spelling method that we have practised before. I have attached a wordsearch in case you would like to do that instead (if you have a printer).

B1 - Today you are going to recap the learning of the spelling rule for adding the prefix –un without any change to the spelling of the root word. Please read through the PowerPoint below to help you to remember this rule. Then, with today’s words, you are going to practise the pyramid spelling method that we have practised before. I have attached a wordsearch in case you would like to do that instead (if you have a printer).
