Reciprocal Reading

Today, you will be reading pages 20-22. Please stop at ‘... metal that had made the inviting sound’.

Work through the Reading PowerPoint and complete today’s written task. The chapter is attached below.

Here is the order we usually follow in class for Reciprocal Reading:

  • Predict (sensible guess)
  • Read the pages
  • Clarify the meaning of words you didn’t know
  • Answer the questions
  • Summarise

Literacy

Today you are going to plan your diary entry. You are writing your diary entry as if you are Hogarth. You are writing the diary entry for the day that Hogarth tries to catch the fox in the trap and later ends up capturing the Iron Man.

Remember to include the features of a diary entry that you learnt about yesterday. Think carefully about how you would have felt if you were Hogarth during that day, after not managing to trap the fox but then managing to capture the Iron Man.

Today you will need to think of a date for your diary entry, and then make notes on what emotions and events you can write about in each paragraph. Make sure you follow the structure of yesterday’s diary entries.

Maths

Green - Today in maths, you are going to use your times table knowledge up to your 12x table. We have done this before in class so ask an adult to put 12 minutes on a timer for you to complete this activity.

You have 5 minutes before you complete the ultimate challenge to practice your times tables. Now remember you have till the end of Year 4 to learn all of your times tables up to 12 x so do not panic.

Answer as many as you can and answer all the easy ones first.

Once the 12 minutes is up, check your answers against the answer sheet.

I have attached a challenge sheet for you to complete the missing numbers using your times tables if you have time.

Good luck and remember to be resilient, keep going!

ROY - Today you are going to use what you have learnt for the last 2 days to answer some questions around the 4 x table.

Here is the link to a video which will teach you everything you need to know for this lesson, just as I would teach you in class: https://vimeo.com/480759672

After you have watched the video, have a go at answering the questions on the attached worksheet. Afterwards, you can mark your answers and ask a grown up to go through any mistakes you made that you don’t know how to correct.

Blue - Today you are learning to find and make number bonds.

Here is the link to a video which will teach you everything you need to know for this lesson, just as I would teach you in class: https://vimeo.com/490882337

PSHE

In PSHE, we are moving on to learning about the world around us. Today’s focus is on setting aspirational goals for ourselves. I felt it was a nice time to think about our goals as we move into a new year, as we can make a special effort to focus on these.

When setting goals for ourselves, we have to think carefully about something that is not too easy, but something that is realistic. A goal might not always be to do with a future job, it might be something as simple as giving to charity each month, or feeling a certain way, or learning a new skill.

Read the information sheet about Mark Beaumont and his goal.

Attached is an activity sheet I would like you to work through that will help you to think about a goal you may have and how you can achieve that goal.

I would love to see some of your responses via our class email.
