Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Thursday 11th June 2020

Hello Dahl class. Remember we have a Year 3 Zoom today at 2pm - it would be great to see you there!

Have a lovely day!

Reciprocal Reading

Today you are going to begin reading chapter 3 of our story ‘Nim’s Island.’

Read today’s pages and then I would like you to summarise the key events that happened in these 3 pages. Remember a summary is 2 or 3 sentences that briefly tells the reader about the key events that happened.

Literacy

Today in Literacy, we are going to uplevel (edit and improve) some sentences about different story settings because on Friday, you are going to write your own setting of Nim’s Island. You are going to need to make sure that your setting description is interesting and includes powerful adjectives that describe your 5 senses. To help you write interesting sentences, you need practise to improve other people's sentences too. I have written some sentences and I would like you to rewrite each sentence (on a piece of paper) by choosing better/more powerful words to describe each setting.

Maths

ROYG - Today you will be learning to measure mass using both kg and g. There is 1000g in 1kg. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B2 - Today you will be learning to read quarter past and quarter to on the clock. Here is a video to explain things: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbjy9ixs6Gc. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B1 - Today you will be recapping using the addition symbol. You should be able to work out the answers in your head by holding the first number of the sum in your head and counting on. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Science

Today you will be learning how to identify different types of trees. You will also be learning to identify and compare evergreen and deciduous trees.

First, look through the PowerPoint with a grown up, this will teach you about what an evergreen and deciduous tree is and the difference between them.

Then you can go on a hunt in your local area with a grown up and see which trees you can identify.

Challenge - now have a go at answering these 2 questions:
What are the similarities between deciduous and evergreen trees?
What are the differences between deciduous and evergreen trees?
