Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Monday 6th July 2020

Good Morning

I hope you are all well and have had a good weekend.

Cannot wait to hear from you this week, showing me your learning or just saying 'hello.'

Enjoy your day, stay safe and keep trying hard with your learning!

Reciprocal Reading

Today in reading, you are going to begin reading chapter 13 of Nim's Island.

Once you have read today’s pages, I would like you to write a summary of what you have read. Remember a summary is 2 or 3 sentences to tell me the key events that happened, it should not be a long piece of writing.

Literacy

Alex Rover writes stories about superheroes in the story of Nim’s Island. This week in Literacy, you are going to design a superhero who will be able to help Nim stay safe in the storm, that is soon to arrive on her island. Friday’s big write will be a short story ending on how the superhero helps Nim and her friends during the storm and saves the day.

Today’s task: Design and draw a superhero that you think will be able to help Nim keep the storm away or tackle the storm when it arrives on her island. You need to think carefully about these things and label them on your drawing:

  • What does the superhero look like?

  • What kind of person are they?

  • How do they behave?

  • What superpowers do they have?

Remember to draw your superhero, colour him/her in and add labels to your superhero.

Maths

Red, Orange, Yellow and Green - Today you are going to start revising our next topic, Multiplication and Division. Over the next few days you are going to recap some of the concepts we learnt earlier in the year and then you will have a quiz on Thursday. Today you will be recapping related calculations e.g. 3x4=12 so 30x4=120. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck). Remember, this is all learning that we have covered in class so you should understand the concepts. If you don’t have a printer, write the answers on a piece of paper with the question number in the margin.

Blue 2: You have now finished your maths learning for this year and it is important that you revise over the topics we have covered so that you remember everything ready for Year 4 learning. First, have a go at revision mat 1 as this will be a good warm up. Then, try revision mat 2 which is a little tricker.  Remember, this is all learning that we have covered in class so you should understand the concepts. If you don’t have a printer, write the answers on a piece of paper with the question number in the margin.

Blue 1: Today you will be learning to count backwards using a numberline. You should be able to do this completely independently (an adult may need to read the questions for you). Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Spelling CEW

This week, I would like you to use the words you have been tested on for your common exception words quiz - this was part of your spellings on 29th May. Choose another 6 words from spellings that you didn’t spell correctly and have a go at practising them using the pyramid method that we have used before.

Challenge: Use 3 of these words in sentences. Be sure they are being used in the correct context.
