Reciprocal Reading 

The Sheep Pig - Chapter 7

Read all of chapter 7 in ‘The Sheep Pig’ story. At the end of the chapter Fly says, “I suppose you’d say that those dogs just weren’t polite enough?” 

Make a prediction on what you think she means when she makes that comment. Then consider why you think she said that to Babe. 

Remember to use the sentence stems: 

‘I think...’

‘I predict...’  

‘I think this because…’

Maths

Red, Orange, Yellow and Green - Today you will be learning to count in tenths. Tenths means that the denominator (bottom number) of the fraction is 10. If there are 3/10 of the fraction shaded, then 3 out of 10 of the sections are shaded. Use the representations to help you find the answer. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 2 - Today you will be learning to use the multiplication symbol. The multiplication symbol looks like this ‘X’ and it is another way of saying ‘lots of’. For example, if there are 5 ladybirds with 3 dots each, there are 5 lots of 3 ladybirds. This can be written as 3+3+3+3+3=15 or 5X3=15. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 1 - Today you will be learning to make arrays. Arrays are a way of representing multiplication number sentences. Rows go across and columns go downwards. If the number sentence said 3 X 4 = 12 you would draw an array that had 3 rows with 4 circles in each row. There would be 12 circles altogether. The attached PowerPoint will show this clearly, work through it with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Design and Technology (D&T) 

This week you will be carrying out your own mission to space because back in January, we received a letter from NASA explaining that there had been a suspicious sighting on the moon. We have learnt about different ways of flying and now we are ready to complete this mission. To do that, you must design your own rocket to travel in. Think about the colours and patterns carefully and why you have chosen them. Will you include a flag on your rocket to show where you are from? Who is riding in the rocket? Is anyone joining you on the mission? What sort of things do they like? You could incorporate these ideas into your design. Have fun with it! Remember it’s your rocket, so make it how you like! Attached is a template you could print (if you have access) to draw onto. 

When you have designed your rocket, add colour and some labels to the diagram to show which materials/colours etc you have chosen and why.
