Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Monday 29th June 2020

Hello Dahl class! I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Enjoy today's home learning activities and be sure to email me with any work you would like to share!

Reciprocal Reading

Today, we are going to begin reading chapter 10 of Nim’s Island.

Once you have read today’s page, I would like you to write a prediction - What do you think Nim might be dreaming of whilst lying on the beach with Selkie and Fred?

Use:

I predict...I think this because...

Literacy

Today, you are going to recap the features of a non-chronological report because on Friday, you are going to write one. Remember a non-chronological report is a non-fiction text (factual - not made up).

Below there are two PowerPoints that I would like you to work through. Once you have done this, I would like you to look at the non-chronological report and label the features that you have learnt about:

  • Headings
  • Subheadings
  • Introduction
  • Conclusion
  • Paragraphs
  • Fun fact
  • Pictures
  • Captions

Maths

ROYG - Today you are going to start revising our next topic, Addition and Subtraction. Over the next few days you are going to recap some of the concepts we learnt earlier in the year and then you will have a quiz on Thursday. Today you will be recapping column addition. Here is a video to remind you how to do column addition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LElclKq6cR0. Once you have watched the video, have a go at completing the column addition worksheet. Remember, this is all learning that we have covered in class so you should understand the concepts. If you don’t have a printer, write the answers on a piece of paper with the question number in the margin.

B2 - Today you will begin learning to measure capacity in milliliters (ml). Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B1 - Today you will be learning to work out ‘how many left’. You will need to hold the number in your head and count backwards. You should be able to do this completely independently (an adult may need to read the questions for you). Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Spelling

This week, I would like you to use the words you have been tested on for your common exception words quiz - this was part of your spellings on 29th May. Choose another 6 words from spellings that you didn’t spell correctly and have a go at practising them using the pyramid method that we have used before.

Challenge: Use 3 of these words in sentences. Be sure they are being used in the correct context.
