Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Monday 22nd June 2020

Hello Dahl class! I hope you had a lovely weekend and are ready for a new week of home learning.

Have a lovely day!

Reciprocal Reading

Today, we are going to continue reading Nim’s Island. We are going to begin reading Chapter 7.

Your Task: Once you have read the pages below, please answer these questions in full sentences. Remember to look back in the text to find the answers.

Q1 - Write a list of items that Nim took with her to the top of Fire Mountain.
Q2 - Why was Nim going to the top of Fire Mountain?
Q3 - Find and copy a word or phrase that tells me what the lava was like.
Q4 - How did Selkie feel when Nim and Fred returned?
Q5 - How did Nim end up falling down the Mountain?

Literacy

This week, we are going to pretend that we live on an Island, just like Nim. We are going to use what we have read and written so far to help us think of a new story but we are going to be the main character.

So today, your task is to begin thinking about and planning who the characters are in your story and what the island is like that you live on. I expect you to have 2 people in your story (you and someone that you live with) and then some animal friends too.

Make notes about the 2 characters names, gender, appearance, personality. Also make notes about the island, what it looks like, what animals are there.

Maths

ROYG - Today you will be learning to compare capacity. Remember, a container's capacity means when it is full. Pay careful attention to the mathematical language, such as most and least.Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you've gone through the Powerpoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B2 - Today you will begin learning about mass, capacity and temperature. Today’s focus will be comparing mass. Think carefully about the mathematical language e.g. lighter = less mass etc. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B1 - Today you will be recapping comparing number bonds. You need to think carefully about the mathematical language e.g. greater than = more/bigger amount. You should be able to do this completely independently (an adult may need to read the questions for you). Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Spelling

This week, I would like you to use the words you have been tested on for your common exception words quiz - this was part of your spellings on 29th May.

Choose another 6 words from spellings that you didn’t spell correctly and have a go at practising them using the pyramid method that we have used before.

Challenge: Use 3 of these words in sentences. Be sure they are being used in the correct context.
