Reading
Remember to carry on with your reading. You are all fantastic readers!
What books have you been reading at home?
What was your favourite book? Why did you enjoy it? What was it about? I would love to hear what books you have been reading. Send me an email and let me know.
Have you been listening to Story time with Nick?
Maths
Year 1: First, here is a game to get our brains working this morning. You have to help the farmer collect the fruit and then answer a question about how much fruit has been collected:

Today we are going to be taking away. Read the number sentences on the worksheet and use the number lines to count back to find your answer. Make sure you count carefully.
Remember to practise your times tables with Times Tables Rock Stars.
Blue group: Your learning today is taking away 1 and 2. First of all I want you to count the objects carefully, then take away 1 or 2 by crossing out the objects.
Year 2: This week we are going to be learning about fractions. First of all, I would like you to have a go at the fraction warm up. How many did you get correct today? We will look at this again at the end of the week to see if you can improve your score! Please use the power point version if you can because the PDF version has the answers on! (I know some of you cannot open power points so you might need your grown up to hide the answer from you!)
Halves and quarters
First look at the power point. It will show you some shapes split into halves and quarters. There are some questions at the end that you can have a go at.
Activity - Can you say how many parts need to be each colour to show the fraction amounts? You can draw these out or just say how many parts you need to colour to show each colour.
Example: ¼ red = 1 part. Be careful though, not all of your parts are the same size! You might need to say the largest part is coloured blue…
The answers are on the second sheet for you to check!
Literacy
Year 1 Grammar – proper nouns
Last week we looked at nouns and proper nouns (special naming words)
Nouns (common nouns) are naming words. A noun tells us the name of animals, places and objects for example hen, bicycle, table.
Proper nouns are special naming words and have capital letters.
Names of people are proper nouns. Mrs Hill
Days of the week are proper nouns. Monday
Months of the year are proper nouns. January
The name of places are proper nouns. Walsall
Months of the year are special naming words so they need capital letters. Today I would like you to write the months of the year using a capital letter. When you have done that, I would like you to answer the questions. Don’t forget your capital letters!
Can you learn the months of the year and the order they come in? Here is a song to help you.
Year 2 Grammar – commas
Today we are going to look at when we use commas in our writing. When we write a list in a sentence, we use commas. We can join the last two things in the list with and.
Here is an example: I like to read, write and draw.
Look at the power point to see how we use commas and then write the sentences using commas and one and.
Science
Last week we looked at different materials and their properties.
This week we are going to see how these properties help us to decide which material is best for the job.
Watch the video to find out how materials have different properties that make them useful for different jobs.

After you have watched the video, test yourself with the quiz.
Can you choose the right material for the job?
