Here is the order we usually follow in class for Reciprocal Reading:

  • Predict (sensible guess)
  • Read the pages
  • Clarify the meaning of words you didn’t know
  • Answer the questions
  • Summarise

Grammar

Green - This week in Grammar, you are going to be learning all about adverb clauses.

An adverb describes the doing word e.g. The boy ran quickly.

An adverb clause tells us more about the verb in a sentence. An adverb clause has a:

  • Subject
  • Verb
  • Begins with a conjunction (when, if, because, so, and, although, even though, unless, even if)
  • Answers the question why, when or how.

EG - The train has stopped because the engine broke. (This adverb clause tells us WHY the train stopped.)

Adverb clauses are known as subordinate clauses - a part of a sentence that doesn’t make sense on its own, it is there to add extra detail.

Once you have watched the video, work through the questions given. The answers are attached for you to mark them after.

ROY - Today in Grammar, you are going to be learning about different types of nouns.

Most nouns are naming things that you can see or touch. There are also:

  • Common nouns e.g. a camera, a table, a dog.
  • Proper nouns e.g. Mr Phillips (names of people , places, months and days of the week)
  • Collective nouns - used to describe a group of things e.g. a pride of lions.
  • Compound nouns - 2 words joined to make 1 e.g. tablecloth.
  • Abstract nouns - things you cannot touch, taste, smell or hear e.g. fear, morning, bravery.

B2 - Today in Grammar, you are going to be learning about adjectives.

Adjectives are describing words e.g. tall, pretty etc. Adjectives can also describe the difference between two things e.g. old/older or small/smaller (these are called comparative adjectives).

B1 - Today in Grammar, you are going to be learning to punctuate statements and questions.

Statements are punctuated with a full stop (.). They are telling sentences.

Questions are asking sentences, and they are punctuated with a question mark (?).

BRAIN BREAK

Now you are half way through today's learning, it is time for a brain break. Follow this link to a Brain Break activity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOgcrNrtfpo

Maths

Green - Today, we are recapping fractions of a set of objects. This is learning from the previous year but it is really important that we recap this before we move on.

Here is the link to a video that will teach you everything you need to know for this lesson, just as I would teach you in class: https://vimeo.com/510395871

After you have watched the video, have a go at answering the questions on the attached worksheet. Afterwards, you can mark your answers and ask a grown up to go through any mistakes you made that you don’t know how to correct.

Attached is a true or false for you to answer. Work through it and explain your answers. This is just a discussion to have with somebody else, you do not need to write anything down.

ROY - Today, we are recapping counting in fractions.

Here is the link to a video that will teach you everything you need to know for this lesson, just as I would teach you in class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rc6S6EhqbUI

After you have watched the video, have a go at answering the questions on the attached worksheet. This is recapped learning so try and think back to what you covered when learning about fractions in year 2. Afterwards, you can mark your answers and ask a grown up to go through any mistakes you made that you don’t know how to correct.

Blue - Today, we are moving onto multiplication and division. Today’s focus is learning to count in 10’s.

Art

This week in Art, you are going to be using your sketching skills and your knowledge of shapes and lines to draw a picture of the Borrowers home, using the parts of the book we have read so far.

First, I would like you to skim through the pages and make notes of anything we know about the Borrower’s home (Chapter 2 from last week has a very detailed description of their home).

Once you have found out all that you can about what their home looks like, I would like you to use shapes, straight and curved lines to sketch what their home looks like. Try to think carefully about the sizes of their furniture and home items and home they are used in their home.

This will come in handy as this week in Literacy, we will be writing a setting description of the Borrowers home, and the picture you create can be used to help you write this.
