Literacy

This week we are reading a story about Handa. Do you remember another story you read about Handa? That’s right it was Handa’s surprise. This week we are reading Handa’s hen.

You can find the story here ….. https://youtu.be/-9FZqX1CBqE

Talk about the characters in the story and how they are feeling throughout the story. Why was Handa worried about Mondi? How did she feel at the end of the story?

Today we want you to sequence the events in the story. You can use a story map or split your paper into boxes and make a comic strip. Don’t forget to label your pictures with key words or sentences.

Don’t forget to make sure the letters you write are clear. Have you remembered your finger spaces between each word? Our aim is that everyone can read our fabulous writing so make sure it’s readable.

Maths

Lets start off our maths with ordering numbers to 20 independently. It is good to keep revisiting areas of learning. This can be done using the game below.

This week we are going to learn about sharing and halving. The children are going to learn to share between 2 equal groups. You can do this by getting 2 plates or bowls. Give any even amount of items to the children it could be cubes, grapes, sweets. Put them in one pile and get the children to count how many are there. One plate is for them one plate is for you, model sharing the objects one on each plate at a time until they run out. Count out loud how many you have and how many they have. Tell the children how many they have and you have and say that it is fair and equal as you both have the same. For today we are going to just focus on even numbers and move onto odd numbers tomorrow. Repeat this with the children up to the number 20 and get them to complete it independently.

Lets finish off our maths lesson by using our number lines we have made for the children to find out one more and one less of any number given.

Topic

Do you know where Handa lives? What is it like there? What do you know about Africa? Today we have attached two information documents full of facts about Africa. Watch and read through one or both of the PowerPoints.

After you have finished can you talk about what you have learnt. Create a poser or information page to show what you have learnt about Africa. You could put it on paper or use a computer.
