Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Monday 1st June 2020

Hello Dahl class! I hope you all had a wonderful half term and took some time to have fun in the wonderful sunshine!

I'm back with more home learning activities for you, so that we can continue our learning journey together.

Reciprocal Reading

Today we are going to be continuing reading ‘The Legend of Captain Crow’s Teeth.’ Today, we begin chapter 5. I hope you enjoy it, as this is our final chapter of the book.

Read pages 1 and 2 below. Then, you are going to make a prediction on:

What do you think Will might say to his parents about who he danced with? Use what you already know of the story.

Use the sentence starters:

I predict Will might say...

I think this because...

Grammar

Today you are going to recap our learning of using speech marks because on Friday, as part of your big write, you may need to include speech from different characters of our story.

There are two PowerPoints below which I would like you to go through with an adult or independently. Once you have learnt and recapped using speech and using correct punctuation, find the sheet that is labelled with your literacy group and have a go at completing the sheet. You do NOT need to print the sheet if you have no printer, you can simply copy the sentences adding punctuation and correct chosen words. Please be sure to check your answers at the end of the task.

Maths

ROYG - Today you will be learning to draw accurately. You will need a ruler that shows cm and mm. Remember there are 10mm in 1cm. When you round, anything below 5 gets rounded down and anything 5 and above gets rounded up. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you've gone through the Powerpoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B2 - Today you will be learning to order lengths using symbols that you have used many times in school - <, > and =. Remember, there are 100cm in 1m. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B1 - Today you will be revising more than, less than and equal to (<, > and =). Remember, the crocodile mouth always eats the bigger number/value e.g. 60<70. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Science

Today, you will be learning about the life cycle of a flowering plant. There will be lots of new scientific terminology and it is important you know what these words mean. Work through the attached PowerPoint with a grown up to learn all about the cycle.

After that, use the attached worksheet to test your knowledge of the cycle and the terminology.

B - Complete the activity sheets with 1 star.
RO - Complete the activity sheets with 2 stars.
YG - Complete the activity sheets with 3 stars.

If you have access to a printer, cut and stick the appropriate pictures and explanations. If you don’t have access to a printer, just draw out the cycle with a diagram and explanation using arrows.
