We will be having another Zoom meeting on Thursday at 2pm, this week. I will be sending you details of this within a few days. It would be great to see you all there!!

Many thanks,

Miss Sharpe.

Reciprocal Reading

Today we are going to finish chapter 3 of our story book ‘The Legend of captain Crow’s Teeth.’

Let's recap what we have read so far...

  • Will and his brother have gone to a ‘jig’ but Will has not had the best time so far because he has had to be dance partners with girls who have not wanted to dance with him, therefore they have not been very kind to him.  Then all of the other nine-year olds who were also at the ‘jig’ were made to stand on the dance floor while the lights were turned out and they had just noticed some very frightening paintings of bloodthirsty pirates on the walls.

Lets begin thinking about today's reading...

On the first page of today’s reading it says ‘The nine-year-olds almost collapsed with fright. The rest of the children cheered wildly.’

Make a prediction of ‘why you think they almost collapsed with fright and why the rest of the children at the jig cheered wildly?’ Write a sentence or two explaining your prediction and don't forget to use evidence from your previous reading as clues.

I think the nine-year-olds almost collapsed with fright because..

I think this because…

Now, you may read today’s pages to finish chapter 3.

Grammar

ROYG - This week in grammar you will be learning about using adjectives that have an impact on the picture a reader gets in their head. You will be using expanded noun phrases in sentences to describe what something or someone is like with effect. Remember, all sentences must begin with a capital letter, have finger spaces between each word and end with a full stop.

Blue 2 - This week in grammar you will be learning about adjectives and using expanded noun phrases in sentences to describe what something or someone is like. Remember, all sentences must begin with a capital letter, have finger spaces between each word and end with a full stop.

Blue 1 - This week in grammar you will be learning about adjectives and using these adjectives in sentences. An adjective is a describing word that tells us what something or someone is like.  Remember, all sentences must begin with a capital letter, have finger spaces between each word and end with a full stop.

Maths

Red, Orange, Yellow and Green: Today you will be learning to measure time in seconds. Remember there are 60 seconds in a minute. You may need to use column multiplication Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you've gone through the Powerpoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 2: Today you will be learning how to count in fractions. Remember to look out for patterns in the numbers. How many do you need to count forwards/backwards each time? Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 1: Today you will be returning to your learning of place value. The focus today is counting one less. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Religious Education

We have already learnt that there are many different journeys:  special journeys, daily journeys and religious journeys for a religious purpose. Today, in Religious Education, we are going to learn about the importance of places of pilgrimage to Hindus.

Pilgrimage in Hindu Religion

Below there are pictures of places where Hindus go on pilgrimage, e.g. the river Ganges, Hardwar, Varanasi.

Follow this link https://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/hinduism/worship/worship.shtml to read about each pilgrimage that Hindu’s may go on and discuss with an adult, the different reasons each pilgrim has for their journeys.

Follow the link below and watch the video below that describes the purpose of different pilgrimages. https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/religious-studies-ks2-my-life-my-religion-hinduism-pilgrimage-hinduism/z4ghf4j

Follow this link to see a short clip about Kumbh Mela: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/46892623

The Kumbh Mela, which happens every twelfth year, and is the biggest human gathering on the planet (2010).

  • Imagine you were going on a pilgrimage – How would you be ready?

  • What would you ask?

  • What would you take?

  • What would you pray for?

(You can record your answers by writing a few short sentences).

Finally, consider and sort these items into these three categories

ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE / NOT NEEDED in pilgrimage. :

  • Water

  • Love for God

  • Special clothing

  • Prayer

  • Money

  • The right attitude

  • Company

  • A Hotel

  • Time

  • Faith

  • Food

  • A clean heart
