Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Monday 15th June 2020

Good Morning King-Smith Class,

I hope you are well and that you have had a lovely weekend. Thank you to those of you who joined me last week on our Zoom call. I am sorry that the internet kept cutting us off. I am hopeful that it will work properly next time. I hope to hold a zoom call again on Thursday at 2pm. I will send the details of it nearer the time via email.

Stay Safe,

Miss Sharpe

Reciprocal Reading

Today, we are going to continue reading Nim’s Island. We had got up to the point where Jack had found himself in trouble because he was stranded on his boat (which was now more-like driftwood because he couldn’t steer it anymore) because of a terrible storm that he was stuck in. He could no longer use his phone either to tell Nim because he now has no satellite.

We are going to read Chapter 4 to find out what happens next to Nim, Jack and their friends on the island.

Your Task: Once you have read the pages below, please write 2 or 3 sentences to summarise what has happened in this chapter. Remember, a summary is short (not long) and should only include the key events - not every small detail.

Literacy

This week, I would like you to use what we have read about Nim so far  (you could use the front cover of our story to help you) and you are going to collect words to describe Nim’s appearance (how she looks). We will be using these words to write a character description of Nim.

Maths

Red, Orange, Yellow and Green:

Today you will be learning to compare mass. Remember, 1000g = 1kg. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you've gone through the Powerpoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 2:

Today you will be learning to tell the time to 5 minutes. Here is a song/video that might be helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6RNkQ7lU8Y. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Blue 1:

Today you will be recapping fact families, as you need to know these fluently. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Spelling CEW

This week, I would like you to use the words you have been tested on for your common exception words quiz - this was part of your spellings on 29th May. Choose another 6 words from spellings that you didn’t spell correctly and have a go at practising them using the pyramid method that we have used before.

Challenge: Use 3 of these words in sentences. Be sure they are being used in the correct context.
