Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Monday 11th May 2020

Hello Dahl class, I hope you have all had a lovely weekend in the sunshine. It's time to get back to work now.

I am missing you all so much! I have decided to schedule a Dahl class Zoom meeting for Friday at 12pm. This will be a chance for you to see your friends and have a class catch up. I would love to see all your faces there. I will send the details over to the email address you have given me/previously contacted me on.

Reciprocal Reading

Today, we are going to recap what we read last week in our story ‘The Legend of Captain Crow’s Teeth.’ In our story, Marty began telling his brothers the story of this legend. There was mention of a lighthouse in the story and how the pirates would lure/attract ships onto the rocks by putting out the lamp in the lighthouse. We are going to find out about lighthouses by reading a non-fiction text and answering the questions using the text.

Please read the sheet below ‘All About Lighthouses’ and then answer the questions below. Remember, your answers need to be in full sentences and using your cursive handwriting and correct punctuation (capital letters, full stops, finger spaces, commas, etc).

Literacy

As part of our literacy today and tomorrow, we are going to be describing and writing a setting description of a lighthouse. Today, we are just going to focus on collecting words for our lighthouse description and tomorrow, we will use these words to write a setting description.

Below is a picture of the outside appearance of the lighthouse. There is also a picture of the inside of a lighthouse. Think of interesting words to describe the looks and feel of the lighthouse. If you can only think of boring adjectives to describe it, use a thesaurus to find your word and it will give you some more interesting and powerful words to replace it with (if you have one at home). There is a template sheet below for you to write your ideas on (if you have a printer) if not, just write some notes in a similar format to the template.

Maths

ROYG - Today you will be learning about AM (before midday - 12am to 12pm) and PM (after midday - 12pm to 12am). Here is a video that might help - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7y1Q3GqRb7E. Attached is a PowerPoint to help you begin your learning about AM and PM. Once you've gone through the Powerpoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck)

B2 - Today you will be learning how to find a third. Remember, ⅓ means split into three equal groups.  Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

B1 - Today you will be returning to your learning of place value. The focus today is counting to 100. You must look carefully at the amount of tens and ones the number has to find the answer. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

PSHE

Today in PSHE you will begin thinking about your body and the choices you make.

Work through the PowerPoint with an adult. Complete the ‘You Can Touch Me Here’ worksheet, and think carefully about what YOU are comfortable with. There is no right or wrong answer.

Then, when you get to the section labelled ‘We Think’, use the score sheet and record what you think.
