Greenfield Primary School

Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Friday 3rd April 2020

Good morning King-Smith Class!

Today is the last day of 'term' as we officially break up for our Easter holidays, today. This means you have 2 weeks off from completing your home learning tasks. I just want to say a big well done to all of you that have been working hard at home. I know it hasn't been easy and that it is very different to working at school, however you and the grown ups at home have done a fantastic job of continuing our year 3 learning journey together.

I hope you all have a lovely Easter break!

Keep safe and have fun! smiley

Big Write (Literacy)

Red, Orange, Yellow and Green - Today you will write your letter home from space. Remember to consider the ideas you have collected throughout the week about the rocket and the things you will take with you, as you may want to mention these things as part of your letter. Follow the steps from yesterday’s PowerPoint about ‘How to Write an Informal Letter’ to help you write your own letter home.

When you are finished writing your letter, use the attached checklist to make sure you have included everything you need to include.

Blue: Use the attached colourful semantics PowerPoint to help you form ‘Who?’ ‘What doing?’ ‘What?’ sentences in your letter home.

Because you are writing in first person, the ‘Who?’ would be ‘I’. The ‘What doing?’ is the verb (doing word) e.g. saw, went, ate etc. The ‘What?’ would be what you saw/ate/did etc.

Mental Maths

Today, I would like you to complete some mental maths activities. Those of you that have emailed the King Smith class email address, will have been sent your credentials to TimesTableRockstars. Each of you has been set the times tables that you need to practise. Head to the TTR website and hit ‘Play’ when you have logged in. You will then be timed and tested on the tables assigned to you.

You can also head to the Daily 10 website (https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/daily10) where you can select which level you are working at and choose a topic to practise mentally. We have covered Place Value, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division in class, so these areas are a good place to start revising mentally. You can change the amount of time you have to answer each question according to how you get on. See if you can improve your scores!

Art

Today I would like you to draw a picture of you on the moon. This could go along with your letter to send home so the person that receives it can imagine they have a picture of you to go with the letter.

Send pictures of your letter and your drawing to our class email so I can see what you came up with!

Story Time

The Sheep Pig - CHAPTER 12

Now you have finished the book, consider these questions:

  • What was your favourite part of the book? Why?
  • Who was your favourite character? Why?
  • Would you recommend this book? Why?

Perhaps you could share/present your thoughts in a sort of mini book review (just like we have done at school before).
