Maths

Year 1 and Blue group

This week we have been learning about counting in 2s and 5s.

Here are some counting songs in 2s and 5s to practise first.

Look at this number track. Are we counting in 2s or 5s?

What about this number line?

Today you are going to practise counting in 2s and 5s and find the missing numbers.

You are also need to count how many altogether by counting in 2s or 5s.

Remember to send me a photograph of your learning.

Year 2

For your learning today you are going to use your knowledge of lines of symmetry from yesterday to draw the whole of a shape. Remember when a shape has a line of symmetry it means that both halves of the shape are the same.

Watch the video below to teach you more about how you can draw the other half of a shape.

https://vimeo.com/508432389

When you are completing your learning you can use the squares to help you. If the top line is 2 squares across, then you need to draw 2squares across on the other half. If it is 4 squares down, then you’d draw a line 4 squares down too.

Diagonal lines are trickier to draw and you will have to look closely at how many squares across and down the diagonal line passes through to help you draw it carefully.

Good luck with your learning today!

Literacy - Spelling

Year 1

Today we are going to look at our spelling families.

Can you say the sound they make?

ai (snail in the rain)     ea (cup of tea)     ie (terrible tie)     oa (goat in a boat)     ue (come to the rescue)

They all make a long vowel sound.

I have included a video for the long vowel sound ie and ue as these will be new sounds for many of you.

You are going to sort the words into the different ways of spelling this sound like we do in class. When you have finished choose 1 word from each group and write a sentence using the word.

Then try the challenge. I have attached the answers for your grown ups to check you were correct.

Year 2:

For our spelling learning this week I would like you to look carefully at these words. Say them out loud to a grown up. What do all these words have in common?

word     worst     bird     dirt     early     learn

These words all have an ur sound in them.

Look again at the words to check this.

word     worst     bird     dirt     early     learn

‘or’ can make the sound ‘ur’ in a few words but usually makes the sound ‘or’ (shut the door).

‘ir’ can make the sound ‘ur’.

‘ear’ can make the sound ‘ur’ in a few words but can also makes the sound ‘ear’ (gear with your ear).

You are going to sort the words into the different ways of spelling this sound like we do in class. When you have finished choose 1 word from each group and write a sentence using the word.

Now try the scrabble challenge.

Art

This week we have been reading the book Wolves by Emily Gravett.

Many of her books are picture books that she has illustrated.

She has won the Kate Greenaway Medal which recognises "distinguished illustration in a book for children".

Wolves was the first book she made. Here is an interesting video where she tells us how she came to make the book.

She has made a video to show people how to draw some of the characters in her books.

Today we are going to see if we can draw wolf from our story.

You will need to listen and watch carefully to the video below.

Don’t forget to send me a photograph when you have finished. I can’t wait to see them all.

P.E
