Friday

Good morning Troughton class! smiley

It is Friday again! One more day of home learning, then you can have a 2 day break over the weekend! I hope you have some fun activities to do at home this weekend. Maybe you can tell me about your weekend on Monday via the class email. Have a great day!

Phonics

Miss Sharpe's group - Just like yesterday I would like to join in with the live phonics lesson streaming on youtube at 9:30am (remember if you miss it - don't worry! It will be on the youtube channel for 24hrs)
You are learning set 3 sounds so make sure this is the one that you watch. You should also watch and join in with the spelling video to match the sound which you are learning today.
It's really important to keep practising your sounds.

Here's the link:

Reading

Today you are going to continue practising your reading skills using the text, 'Pets in our home' for the final time. Today you are going to find and copy important words and phrases and determine whether a sentence is true or false.

Use your ninja eyes to skim and scan through the sentences to locate the correct part to copy.

When you answer the true or false questions, look back over the text and read the sentences carefully to work out if the statement is true or false.

For today's song, you can try the Dance Freeze song no.2!

Maths: Red, Orange, Yellow and Green groups

Now that you have practised completing some mixed problems, I want you to complete some more mixed problems but with reasoning and problem solving. This means you will have to explain your answer for some of them.

Please don’t say you counted in your head as this is not the best way to explain! Try to think about what maths you carried out to complete the question. You could draw a diagram or write out the multiplications or counting that you did to come to your answer.

As with yesterday here are the videos for counting in 2s, 5s and 10s in case you need to refresh your memory!

Maths: Blue group

Today we will be learning about patterns in 2D and 3D shapes.

A pattern is something that repeats.
For example:

In the first row, the repeated pattern is, 'square, circle, square, circle, square, circle'
In the second row the pattern is, 'triangle, rectangle, triangle, rectangle, triangle, rectangle'
The third row's pattern is, 'hexagon, pentagon, hexagon, pentagon, hexagon, pentagon'

Watch this video to complete your warm-up and see your learning: https://vimeo.com/476289396

Then complete the patterns on your worksheet.

Writing - Spelling: Red, Orange, Yellow and Green groups

For our spelling learning this week I would like you to look carefully at these words. Say them out loud to a grown up. What do all these words have in common?

love    honey     money     other     mother     brother

These words all have an “o” in them that make a “u” sound, often before a ‘v’, ‘n’ or ‘th’.

Look again at the words to check this.

love    honey     money     other     mother     brother

Now click on the activity and the missing word challenge to carry on practising this spelling rule.

Writing - Spelling: Blue group

Today we are going to look at our spelling families.

These special friends make the same sound but are spelt differently.

ew (chew the stew)

u-e (huge brute)

oo (poo at the zoo)

ue (come to the rescue)

Look at these words, where does the sound come in each of these words?

chew, stew, huge, brute, zoo, moon, rescue, blue

You are going to sort the words into the different ways of spelling this sound like we do in class. When you have finished choose 6 words and write a sentence for each.

Can you spell each of the words on the challenge activity?

See if a grown up can quiz you on spelling these words too! How many words can you spell correctly?

Music

Today we will be learning about pulse, how to find it and how to move our body in time to the beat.
