Literacy (Big Write)

Today you are going to write a setting description of the coastline and then the caravan using the words and phrases we have collected all week. Remember setting descriptions will need to be descriptive and will need to paint a picture in the reader's head, so choose your words carefully. You can use a dictionary or thesaurus to help you choose powerful and interesting words.

You need to make sure that your writing includes:

  • capital letters

  • full stops

  • finger spaces

  • cursive handwriting

  • interesting and powerful adjectives

  • expanded noun phrases

  • adverbs/fronted adverbials

  • paragraphs

I can’t wait to read your setting descriptions soon, please be sure to email them over!

Maths

Red, Orange, Yellow and Green - Today you will be applying everything we have learnt during the fractions topic, in some problem solving questions. For this, you will need to follow this link (https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-3/) to a video that will allow you to work through the questions on your own, and will then check your answers and method for finding the answer. Click ‘Summer Term - Week 2’ > ‘Lesson 4’ and watch the video. You will also need to click on  ‘Get the Activity’ for your question sheet. The answers are also available on the page.

Here is some support in breaking down and explaining the question to your child:

Q1: Use halving to work out the lengths of the short and long sides of the smaller rectangles. Then find the perimeter (the distance all the way round the outside) of the new shape.

Q2: Use this information to help you find a variation of different perimeters e.g. if you were to put all 4 small rectangles on top of each other.

Q3: First, take away 9 from 81. The answer is 72, and this needs to be divided by 3 because that will tell us the amount of yellow and blue counters. Then add 9 back onto this total which will tell you the amount of red counters.

Q4: Use the technique of doing the inverse to help you find the answer to this problem.

Blue 2 - Today you will be learning to recognise a half. Attached is a PowerPoint to work through with an adult so that you understand the methods for working out the answers. Once you have worked through the PowerPoint, you must have a go at answering the questions independently (ask an adult for help if you get stuck).

Music

This week we are going to find out about Scottish musicians through researching them.

Below, there are facts on 8 different Scottish musicians. I would like you to find an example clip of their music by researching their name on the internet(with parental guidance/supervision) and finding a piece of their music to listen to.

Once you have listened to a clip from all 8 musicians. I would like you to choose a favourite Scottish musician and write a few sentences explaining why they are your favourite. To help you make a decision, think about the way their music makes you feel, how does it sound, is it your usual type of music you would usually choose to listen to?
