Greenfield Primary School

Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Friday 18th June 2020

Good morning,

Thank to those of you who joined me on the Zoom call yesterday. It was really nice to see you all. There will not be a Zoom call next week as I am in school more often now. However, I will try and do one the following week. I shall keep you updated via our class pages, so make sure you keep your eyes peeled!

Stay safe and enjoy your weekend!

Reciprocal Reading

Today you are going to finish reading chapter 6 of Nim’s Island.

Your Task: Once you have read the pages below, please write 2 or 3 sentences to summarise what has happened in this part of the chapter. Remember, a summary is short (not long) and should only include the key events - not every small detail.

Literacy - Writing

Today as part of your writing, I would like you to write some instructions to tell me how I would go about building the raft that you designed yesterday. Remember the features of instructions include:

  • A title

  • What I will need

  • Method - How I will do it.

  • Imperative verbs - bossy words that tell me an instruction e.g. put, cut, saw, drill, etc.

  • Numbers

  • Adverbs of time - words that tell me when something is done e.g. first, next, then, after, finally, etc.

Please see below an example of instructions so that you know how to set your own out correctly.

Maths

Today, I would like you to have a go on TimesTableRockstars. Log into your account and hit ‘Play’. I have individually set you all the times tables you need to practise. This is just to help you keep up with practising your times tables and improve your speed and fluency with mental maths.

I will have a look later at how your scores have improved and how many coins you have earnt.

Have fun Rockstars!

Geography

Today, you are going to be learning about rivers around the world in Geography. Below, there is a powerpoint with some names of different rivers, including some interesting facts about them too. Then, you will find an activity sheet below where you will need to label each river on the world map. If there are some rivers missing on the Powerpoint, you may do your own research and see if you can locate the names of the other rivers on the map.
