First of all up-level the phrases and adjectives in the story including:
lovely things to eat. Mog dreamt about a big egg. But some big birds came. One of them wanted to eat Mog.
Stuck to her ___ tail.
And then it went into the ___ fire.
Saw her shoot past.
Horrible noise.
Sad. Happy. Thankful.
Additionally discuss how the Christmas tree looked before the fire and then once the fire had burnt it - pretty, christmassy, colourful, decorative, uplifting then bare, barren, dead, burnt to a crisp, not at all christmassy.
Then plan your retell. Finally write your retell of the story.
