Greenfield Primary School

Imagine, Believe, Succeed

Sainsbury's School Sport Organising Crew

Greenfield have a long tradition of utilising our children as Young Leaders. Initially, we worked in partnership with our local Sports Academy who provided the training for our Year Six children to become Playground Leaders.

However, as our own school staff  have qualified as trainers we now train all of our children from the Summer term of Year Four to become Playground Leaders.

For the first time in 2012-13 we introduced a Sainsbury’s School Games Organising Crew for Sport in the school. This was created to give the children a greater say in the type of  P.E. provision that was offered at Greenfield. As this was going to be a long term project the crew members were chosen from Year 4, 5 and 6.

We had two Heads of Crew were both Year Six and were also selected as our Bronze Young Ambassadors. They were involved in the planning and organisation of our School Sports Days and Our Sainsbury’s Your School Games Activity Day.

Our Year Five crew member was in charge of equipment and has led a team of other young leaders to source activities during National School Sports week and our Activity Day. The final member of the crew was from Year Four. Their responsibility was Media Leader. Many of the photographs that appear on the curriculum pages from our event days were taken by them. They have also had opportunity to write match reports from games they have been involved in.

For 2013-14, we appointed two new members to the crew to replace the children who had left in Year Six. They became the Head of the Crew. They organized all of our activities for Sport Relief 2014.

The crew sold wristbands, badges, competition entries and match tickets for our Staff v Pupils Football Match during March 2014 at playtime and lunchtime. Click on the Sport Relief 2014 link on the side of the page for full details.

For 2014-15 the crew wanted to raise money to buy new t-shirts for our school sports team to wear. As they found they were being used many times with all of the summer competitions the school was involved in.

Firstly, they sold wristbands school games wristbands to be worn during National School Sport week and crowd clappers for Sports Day. Then they organised a cricket match between the Greenfield School Staff and the Girls Cricket team and School B team. They sold tickets for this game. Then finally, they held two sports clothes sale in the school hall. All of the clothing and equipment were previously worn or used by Greenfield School teams.

The 2015-16 crew was announced in the final Thursday school assembly of the Year. Three new members are joining the crew with the existing member now taking over as head. Their first duties will to begin planning towards Sport Relief 2016 and their Major Event.
