At Greenfield Primary School, we provide every child with the opportunity to enjoy all aspects of music. Every day we encourage children to sing in our whole school assemblies; Tuesday assemblies are for hymn practise and Wednesday assemblies have a music focus. The entry and exit music to our assemblies have a different theme every week thus extending the knowledge and understanding of a variety of composers, singers, bands and instruments.
We have stand-alone music sessions as well as sessions with cross curricular links. We not only expose our children to a wide variety of music but also encourage them to create their own instruments and musical notations. In years 3 and 4 we give all children the opportunity to experience learning to play an instrument through the introduction of the recorder. Opportunities to continue this passion and build on it by learning to play a variety of other instruments are offered throughout every year group.
Our School annually reviews additional Music experiences taking advantage of some of the activities led by the Forest Arts staff, world instruments and individual instrument tuition. As a school we also make great use of our SingUp subscription to research composers, instruments and make links to topic work.
We have two Early Years Christmas productions each year. All other year groups sing at a carol service at Christmas and have the opportunity to showcase their musical talents through class assemblies.
