A walk in the woods

No History is taught during this topic, it is a Geography based topic.

Fire & Ice

 The children learn about the Great Fire of London.  They discover how it was started, the impact upon London and the country.  They also discover how we know about the fire.

                             

Trainers, tracks & tyres

The children learn about significant individuals who are linked with transport such as Brunel and Stephenson.  The children learn about the legacy that these individuals have left behind.

Cycle b

A world of difference – Come with me

 

Through a mini-topic the children about the importance of Remembrance day.  They learn the about poppies, why they are worn and how wars are remembered in the local area.

 

Dungeons & Dragons

This topic teaches the children about Castles.  They find out who built the castles and why they were built in specific locations.  They also discover what life in a castle would have been like.

 

In the secret garden

 

No History is taught during this topic, it is a Science based topic.

 
 

Planning for Lower Key Stage 2

Italian Adventures

During this topic the children learn about the Roman Empire, the extent to which it spread.  They also learn about impact of Roman rule on Celtic Briton and how some communities resisted this.

Flying High

The children about significant points in the development of flight – the first aviators, man on the moon and the air battles that took place over Britain during World War 2.

 

Thatch & Kilt

This topic explores Britain’s settlement by Anglo-Saxons and Scots. The children explore

Place names, village life, Anglo-Saxon art and culture.   They also learn about the spread of Christianity.

Cycle b

Stig

The children learn about prehistoric Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age.  They explore how we know about life in the past when nothing was recorded formerly. 

Out of Africa

 

No History is taught during this topic, it is a Geography & Science based topic.

 

Walk like an Egyptian

During this topic the children learn about life in Ancient Egypt focusing on the key features of everyday life such as farming, rulers, pyramids and death rituals.

Viking Invasion

During this topic the children study the Viking and Anglo-Saxon struggle for the Kingdom of England to the time of Edward the Confessor.

 

 

Hard times!

 

The children study the local area during this topic, exploring how it changed and developed during Victorian Britain.

No History is taught during this topic.

The Greeks

 

The children learn about life in Ancient Greece.  They explore its society and the influence that it still has today.

 

 

 

Ice Worlds

 

No History is taught during this topic.

 

Jungle Fever

During this topic the children learn about the Mayan Civilisation.  They try to answer a variety of questions such as

Who were the Mayans?  Why did this powerful empire disappear so suddenly?
